At 13 years for a large dog, you are lucky he is walking at all. It could be any number of geriatric problems and diseases. You would have to take him to a vet for a proper diagnosis.

It sounds very much like vestibular disease. In most cases this is not serious and within a 7-10 days it just goes away and the dog is no worse off than before. The dog is usually understandibly very scared as they don't understand what is happening so it is important to make sure they eat and drink during this time. That would be the best case scenario. You really should go to your vet because it could be something much worse such as a brain tumor.

Good luck!

Hip Dysplasia has been a problem in Labs,
However, if he just started having problems at age 13, it is probably arthritis. There are several 'joint' formulas on the market such as Glucosamine. Also a therapeutic mattress would probably help.
If you need to help him get up and get started walking, put a towel around his waist and gently pull up his rear after he has gotten up on his front legs. The towel will help you walk him a few steps until he can get going on his own

ok, he is 13 in human years but in dogs years he seems very old, remember that to calculate an average dog's age you multiply it by seven...so your dog has....13 x 7 = 91 dog years...which is a lot.
he probably has arthritis or something like that, you should take him to the vet immediately. see, sometimes old dogs are like old ppl, you need to take extra care of them and make sure that they dont run or suffer any strong physical procedures. its better for the dog to stay at home just lying around, maybe a walk around the house once in a while will help, and to not get him to suffer from depression or boredom i recommend those little dog bones which i might say they really like and spend much of their time gnawing on it

To say he is "only" 13 is a mistake...he is very, very old. He probably has bad arthritis in his hips and could possibly have a form of vertigo. Just take care of him for as long as you think he is comfortable and relatively pain-free.
Ask the vet about Rimadyl, it is ibuprofen for dogs that will reduce the inflammation and pain.

honey 13 is considered senior citizen age for a dog...even a lab. he is probably having problems with arthritis in his joints.
there are medications that can help with the swelling, and pain. you may also want to change his diet to a senior dog food. Nutro has a good brand of senior food.
talk with you vet about ways to make him more comfortable in his old age!
he'll be okay, he just needs to take it easy now.

You know what, my dad had a Mini Schnauzer and one day she couldn't get up. And she was 14 and she was put down because the vet said if a dog does that it's most likely dying. Sorry to say it but, that's the vet said. Good luck.

Take him to a vet it could be Hip Dysplasia or Arthritis both are really deabilitating for older dogs. Can be other things my dog suffered from cancer related anaemia and he found it hard to walk towards the end, SEE THE VET ASAP

He is an old dog. Just like with people things start to wear out the older you get. He could have hip displaisa, your vet could check for that with x-rays. It could be he has pulled something in his back, again your vet could check for that. Or it could be his age.

Good luck.

If he's 13, he's old. It sounds like either arthritis or an inner ear infection. Go to a vet to find out.
