It's not a weakness, I think it's a very strong moral basis on which to guide your life. Good for you.

I just wish that some people who call themselves 'christians,' and then preach hatred, bigtory, discrimination and therefore violence against gay people would learn this rule. Their actions certainly go against teachings such as this. WWJD?

It is not a weakness - it is a magical thing that lifts you up... even if your love is not returned. Sadness comes from the fact that we expect something in return and we don't get it. We shouldn't expect anything... and if it happens that it comes, it will be a blessing upon our life.
Other than that, if one can love without expecting too much in return, it will be a very positive experience for both people. It is a great thing to love and a rush of positive energy to be loved... :)

How I wish I had this answer of mine always in my mind - I would suffer much less, I think, in everyday life!

I think because when you love someone you are more vulnerable to be hurt badly. Vulnerability (weakness), getting hurt (sadness), I guess.
