I'm a Christian, & 1 of the more stricked sects of christianity. I just got to thinking, why in the hell do so many Christians place so much emphasis on premarital sex being the ultimate sin, next to murder?
Don't freeking tell me because it robs them of their virgintiy, because if one is willing to make that decision, that's their issue, not societies.
I think Christianity among other religions have just taken it too far with how stricked and judgemental they can be toward premarital sex. Sex should't be frowned upon, because it is 1 of the most beautiful things 2 people that truly love one another could share. It should be praised rather than condemed. I think Alot of religions got it backwards.
Sex is a natural thing among men and women and should be expected.

So don't throw any B.S. in my face with scriptures.
If you don't have an intellegent down to Earth answer, and lean on what you only know because of how you were brought up, please do not answer this question.

To those hard core brain washed christians that answered already. Sex is an act of love for one another. Not the end all and be all to everything among two people as so many religions teach.

It's silly that so many religions teach that you'll go to hell for committing such a wonderful act for someone you love and care about unless you repent. Doesn't that sound just a bit twisted to you?

I have had premarital as well and I don't regret any of it what so ever. I'm tired of the guilt trips religion places on people for being human.

Like somone said earlier, it's a control thing. Which is one of the worst human faults. It's all about control over one another. What ever happened to free agency, compassion and understanding?

Those key ingredients that Christ taught has gotten lost somewhere between now and 2000 years ago. Too many Judgemental pricks out there.

You know how parents give you rules without explaining them when you were little? It's the same as the Church and many other religions. For example, Muslims aren't allowed to eat pork because back in the day, they didn't have refrigeration, so they salted a lot of their meat. And eating pork that was partially raw or uncooked would kill you. In the end they just forbade pork in general rather than take that risk.

It's just like premarital sex. They didn't have birth control back then, or methods of safe sex, and having sex indiscriminately was also hazardous (STD's). Plus children from such a union had no family unit to connect to and recieve support from.

It's an antiquated law, that should've changed with the times. Just like the pork thing--I mean we do have refrigeration nowadays. We have many reliable forms of contraceptives and responsibility should be taught in that arena. Because the more you forbid it, the more that people will do it anyway without being armed with the knowledge of safe sex methods.

Sex is a beautiful thing to share with that one person you love more than life itself. But life tells us, that the world HAS turned such a beautiful act into something "dirty" (think porn, degrading music, etc). In today's world, the loving act of making love still exists, but is getting more and more rare, which is what break's the Lord's heart.
For example, my teenage daughter and her boyfriend felt the way you feel. Harmless and no one's business but their's right? Yeap, now, a year later, I am grandma (at 38) to a sweet lil boy. Don't get me wrong, both sides of his family just love him! However, Mom and Dad are not married, and frankly, we don't know if they have a future together or not. So what happens to my grandson when the day comes and these two decide they don't want to be together anymore?
BTW- My daughter was on birth control and took it exactly like she was supposed too, it failed. So if you think you can be safe and no one has to get hurt with premarital sex, think again.
That being said though- As a Christian I have to say that the temptation of flesh is the one that is hardest to fight. Sometimes we win the battle, sometimes we do not. This is what I told my daughter when she asked if Mommy was mad because she was pregnant. Well, that and a big hug for my baby who was scared to death when she found out.

Premarital sex is looked down on for several reasons, yes in the Bible God states that you shouldn't do it. There was a reason for this. Being that he is God he probably knew that in today's world teenage pregnancy, STD, AIDS, and all sort of bad things happen to people, maybe he wants us to respect ourselves and our bodies. Is sex a beautiful thing? yes, more so if you married. Why? The reason behind sex is to reproduce. That is the main reason for sex no matter what people say. (it isn't just for the pleasure you get) If your married then you committed yourself to that one person and you trust that one person. The results of you having sex when your married is children (the majority of the time anyways) and that child will have a more stable foundation then from a mother who is 17 and a dad who got what he wanted and left. I don't know if I made my point but hey.

be in the world not of the world. sex is the most beautiful thing your right! but I don't think you know how beautiful and how sacred it is. To find the one that you love so much that you are willing to wait. it's so respectful and so rewarding beyond words. you might love a person yet you might end up breaking up, That shows no commitment. It is so beautiful yet people take it and disort and degrade it into something not so special becuase they are doing it with everyone. The world is turning it into a norm that you can do it with everyone. Control seperates us from the animals. animals go for the temp pleasurement. Sex shouldn't be frowned on at all, it brings you closer then anything else. that is why you wait until that spec. someone that you want to spend the rest of you life with.

Supposedly the love between a man and a woman needs to be sanctioned by God (if there is one) and that's why some Christians get all uptight about premarital sex. It's the same crap that goes for gay marriage...marriage between like genders has to be sanctioned by God and that idea is unfathomable to some Christians (I think that arguement is more over semantics than anything else as many Christians favor Gay Unions which don't carry the sanction). I think Christianity and Society have NO RIGHT to enter my bedroom or yours and tell us who we can and can't have intercourse with (of course protecting minor children and abusive behaviours are exceptions). PEACE!

The Bible does say that premarital sex is wrong. Point blank. We've all probably bitten of the fruit before we were supposed to, but again that was a choice we made. Hey, I made it, but I repented and have vowed to wait until I'm married before I engage in the act again.

I am a chrisitan, i have had premarital sex, sex is not bad but what they teach us at my church you should do it with some one that you really love and we be with you for the rest of your life, some times i wish i can go back in time and erase that chapter in my life to give that moment to the man i love and will be with for the rest of my life, who know if i get married and get divore later on in life, at least i know that i give it to the person who loved me and was willing to form a family with me, it is not the same when you have a boyfriend girlfriend thing that it is not something stable, dont know if i answed right but all i know sex should be with the person that rocks you world not with some tom dick or harry that you dont know if she or he is for you after 3 or 4 months of realthship.

Control. If a religion controls you, you won't go looking for other answers, so all religions try to control you as much as possible so you don't seriously investigate other belief structures. As for sex, if you don't have sex, you are thinking about it so you aren't thinking about some of the idiocy all religions try to teach you

Because premarital sex leads to children with no families. As Chris Rock said, when a baby calls his grandmother "mom" and calls his mother "Pam," he is going to end up in jail.

If you don't believe the scriptures, then how can you say you are Christian?

If sex was only between married people, then we wouldn't have STD's.
