Yes, they do need to come home, but not until the job is done. It's easy to sit here and say they need to come home now because all you pay attention to is the news and what people want you to see. The fact is, the troops over there know they're doing what's right. They can see how much the people in Iraq appreciate them. The insurgents aren't the masses. We have to finish what we started.
It was very refreshing to see some well thought replies on here. Thanks!!

Disagree
They are making a huge sacrifice and it is unfortunate that it is taking so long and costing so many lives- but if we pull out now then it says that the lives of the 2500 troops who died were wasted. If we don't accomplish our mission (establishing a self-sustaining democracy in place of a terrorist regime) then we might as well spit on the graves of the men and women who have given their lives for this cause. We must finish the job and not whimp out.
It would be far more dangerous for us to just walk away now because it would tell the world that Americans give up easy- they are quitters and if you just hold out long enough and use their media machine against them you can win. Terrorists would see that they could get away with their ideals- Terrorists would then be able to recruit more people and the already unstable region would become a Nazi like theocracy ruled by extreem militants who's ultimate objective is to wipe you and me off the face of the earth.

It's a good thing it isn't up to you. We would have run just like in Somalia and Lebanon and during the Iran hostage crisis. why don't you ask the soldiers Marines sailors and airmen that are doing the grunt work while you debate about it. I have been deployed once I have known many people that went over there and we all agree... let us finish the job. What you need to do is stop acting righteous and implying you have our best interest at heart. You just want to have your cake and eat it too. You want to protest what me and my fellows are doing but make it look like you are supporting us you can't have it both ways. At least the soldiers in the 60's knew were they stood with the protesters. The hippys of old spit in the soldiers faces you smile in ours then stab us in the back.
And milwifenmom... you give a bad name to all military wives. You need to shutup if you aren't going to support your husband you are a disgrace.

IF you are talking about our troops in Bosnia, then YES!
IF you're talking about our troops in Iraq, NO!
We need to finish the job, and leave a gov't that's able to keep peace when we're gone. If we leave now, all the lives sacrificed by our soldiers will have been in vain, because the terrorsits would win, and then take over the country.

We should stay until the work is finished. We left Vietnam too soon and it was turned over to the North; we left Korea too soon and it was turned over to the North. How many times does it take before you learn that sticking your tail between your legs and running away only gives the country we are fighting against what they wanted in the first place. I don't think we want to dishonor the brave men and women who have died in this conflict by pulling out before the work is done like we did in the above mentioned actions. They should not have had to die for nothing.

Well, um, I'll be shorter than Walleye.
I'd say start downsizing this year, get to 50% by 2007, and complete pullout by 2008.
I would like to point out though, this is an ALL volunteer military... everyone joined knowing they'd go to war... I did.

First of all, I support my husband 100%. Any military wife that says she would rather her husband be a million miles away and in a combat zone does not LOVE her husband. It is only natural to feel that way but I also understand that when duty calls he must go and we were fully aware of that when he joined.

I agree with you. My husband has been deployed 6 times already, the last 4 have been back to back tours. Yes it is time to bring them home and tend to our own backyard.

Should we get the French to help us formally surrender first, airhead. I can't think of a better way to embolden the enemy's of this country than to add Iraq to the other times that we cut and ran.
