If you want to convert a fraction into a decimal number you need to consider the fraction as a division.

The number in the top goes inside the box, and the number in the bottom goes outside... Make the division as you normally do, and there you go, decimal result.

in the case of 1/8...

__.125___
8/ 1.000

therefore,

1/8 = .125
