If her income is very low she could qualify for the Starkey Hear Now program. They charge an application fee of just $100 per ear. The hearing aid, testing and fitting are all free after that. But she must have a low income and limited assets. There is a phone number you can call on the site for more information and to see if she qualifies.

Look into the Starkey Fund - they base their coverage on financial need. She would be fit with Starkey hearing aids through this fund. Also check out the Lions Club as they sometimes fund purchases for people in their area in need. Check out your church too. Funds are in place for people in need for sure. You just have to do some leg work, make some calls and ask. They don't advertise these kinds of services. I am not sure if Michigan has hearing aid coverage for Medicaid recipients. But you may want to check that out as well.

You may want to see if the audiologist you work with could suggest some cheaper options, reconditioned instruments, or payment plans. Good luck!

Nope, it seems insurance companies don't consider hearing to be essential. The government I think gives assistance for children who need hearing aids, but us older people no one cares about.

Now this may or may not help, but there are some types of hearing aids that can be used with some success for certain types of hearing loss.

Next thing, hearing aids are not all one would think they are for that amount of money. When I am in a quiet place and am talking to someone, I don't need a hearing aid. When I am in a nosiy place and am talking to someone I found the hearing aid made it worse, because it amplified the noise as well as the person speech, so it ended up a wash.

I spent 2K and stopped wearing mine. Has to tell you something.
