I ate pork belly at a fancy restaurant here in LA. I love bacon, so I had to try it.

There were 3 layers:

A thin layer of something that looked like Canadian bacon, but it had better flavor

A 1/4 inch layer of fat

a 1/2 inch layer of meat

It was SO GOOD, that I can't go back to that restaurant again (I will have that over and over again, and die happily of a heart attack).

Other strange things that I have eaten:

Alligator (tastes like chicken)
Rattlesnake (tastes like clams)
Cheesesteak (I grew up in Philly, these aren't weird to me but they are to the rest of the country)
Tofu (YUK YUK YUK)

Grasshoppers. Yup some parts are edible, the technique is to pull off the heads slowly so it pulls the internal organs out. I guess if your starving in the woods you'll try anything.

Haggis. Its a sausage made with organ meat (which is, honestly, what most sausage is made of), oatmeal, whiskey and spices, which is then stuffed into a sheep's stomach and steamed. You don't eat the stomach, just the sausage. It's usually served with boiled potatoes and mashed turnips.
It was actually pretty good.

lamb meat...my friend took me to a gyro food joint and got a wrap. I had no idea what the hell a gyro is made of so I tasted hers and damn near threw up. It left the nastiest taste in my mouth...never again...I stick with what I know or ask lots of questions. I've also had chitterlings...disgusting...don't remember actually eating them but I know they stink and look like boiled chicken skin.
