it is possible to get an infection, if you have any signs of swelling go see a doctor, my fiance was bitten by a cat and had to get antibiotics, her hand was swollen like a balloon. The doctor said if she waited much longer she could have lost her hand. Also cat's can carry lot's of bacteria in their claws from digging in the litter box.

Any time an animal scratches or bites where it breaks the skin there is a chance of infection, although slim. Be sure to wash the area real wll with some anitbacterial soap, and if something looks real red, maybe put some neosporin on it. Just watch to see if they get better or worse. There honestly is a virus called cat scratch fever, I got it years ago from a neighbors cat that scratched my hand. It caused a blood infection that took some pretty stong anitbiotics to clear up. So, it's never a good idea to allow an animal to bite and scratch - even in play. They need to learn how to play gentle.

there is one illness you can get from scratching.

pretty much you get high fever your glands swell up and that's pretty much it, it goes away after a week with the help of good old antibiotics.

if you haven't gotten it so far then i doubt you will.
also you have a bigger problem on your hands, if your cat in one year old and still attacks you it's not good. you should talk to a cat beaver specialist who can give you advices on how to make him stop biting you.

when my cat bites me or scratch me i just the word no in a very stern not too angry voice. and tell her to let go. i've been doing it for about three months now, and it's starting to work. my cat is also a year old. it will take time teaching a cat is not like training a dog, they have a mind of their own.

Cat scratch fever, a bacterial infection is possible. The welts show you have somewhat of an allergy to what ever is on the cats feet. (mold, dust mites ect.) Get a vet, or a pet groomer to show you how to trim the kitties claws. I trim my kitties once a week, takes about 2 minutes. Get yourself checked out for allergies also.

I wouldn't worry too much. It can happen but usually the cat would have to bite you pretty deep and then the chances are still really slim. If it was common to get sick from cat scratches almost everyoneone would get sick at least once in their lives.

No, you can't, not unless his claws are covered in bacteria and he draws blood and the bacteria is in your bloodstream and your immune system is too weak to fight it off. But chances are you'll fight off 99% of any bacteria that gets in past your skin because your body is a immunity-machine, unless you have AIDS or something.

If the cat is not tested for rabies or other strange diseases, though, his saliva can make you sick. My aunt caught rabies from a cat she babysat for a friend and she had to take painful shots...

my cats always bites and scratches during play and i just rinse it off then put peroxide on them (if it breaks the skin) and let it go if it gets redder in a day or so i just put more peroxide on it. i've never gotten sick from them and neither has my husband who has a scar on his nose from my cat scratching him. and we didn't put nothing on it. but he also has a very high immune system. if it had happend to me i don't think i would have put something on it either. and when they bite or nip they never draw blood.

just make sure you clean them well, and use peroxide and neosporin and you should be fine if you start to deveolp an infection or cellulitis you might want to see a doctor but just clean the cuts and stuff out a few times a day and I would think you would be just fine, I still have some scars from my kittens durring play sessions

Just be sure to wash them thoroughly and use Neosporin afterwards. I've been scratched by my cats several times and never gotten sick from it.

As long as you clean them they should be fine. But you shouldn't let your cat bite you. A cat's mouth is full of strong bacteria that can do a lot of harm to a person if they are bitten.
