Are you as outraged by this as I am? This isn't to excuse the other side, which in my view is a terrorist organization called Hezbolah that kidnaps and launches rockets at the state of Israel, and if anything, THE ENTIRE WORLD SHOULD BE DEALING WITH THE SCOURGE OF TERRORISM.

But all I'm asking with this question is, shouldn't a legitimate government want to set the example and follow the United Nations request.

Or if the United Nations is wrong, tell me why you think they are wrong. (I think there is a simple solution, all the organized governments gather together and work on how to eliminate all terrorist organizations, using the United Nations or whatever your prefered international diplomatic channel)

Well, that's the problem with ultamatums (sp). Israel said :"let our guys go, or else" Lebanon said : " No, bring it, Allah will protect us...alalalalala"
So that's what happens over there. It has been that way for centuries.

Because the UN will say let's have peace and nothing will get done and Israel will be right back were they started.

Understand this well, if the Terrorists threw down there weapons there would be peace. If Israel threw down there weapons you would have another Holocaust. One side (Israel) wants peace the other does not.

All the nations will gather together? Or you unaware that many nations support the terrorists? Your answer is as naive an answer I have ever saw. Oh how I wish you were right and it was that simple.

Enough is enough Hezbollah needs to be dismantled. If Israel doesn't do it, it will not get done. The UN has resolutions and they say it should be done. Yet after all these years it is business as usual.

Wouldn't you want to prevent a couple of "puppet" terrorist organizations from stockpiling weapons near your border in the hopes of one day destroying you? Hezbollah is working for Iran and Syria. They are merely doing what is asked of them by these two countries.

Let's get real about the situation. There are 14,000 rockets sitting in residential areas in Lebanon. Iran needs to take the heat off of them from the UN- so what do they do? They call up their Hezbollah buddies and say now is the time to act. And like the cowards they are, they hide behind the veil of residential neighborhoods and scream about the atrocities the Jews are committing on innocent people. Let me ask you this. Would innocent people allow others to place high powered weapons in their home for safekeeping?

It's time to stop the games- as human beings we all must look at the greater goal here. Europe needs to get their head out of their *** and realize that they are responsible in a big way for what has happened in the Middle East. They put the Jews in Israel, what's done is done. It's now time for everyone to draw the territorial lines- put down the weapons and just allow for peaceful coexistence in the region. Anyone that is against that goal must be totally and completely destroyed. Cowards will not be allowed to hide behind innocent bystanders. We must send the message that if you harbor militant groups that are hell bent on destroying peace, you will pay the price. Yes, people will suffer, but over the long haul this will all work out. And if it hasn't become blatantly apparent just what Iran is up to now with the Nuclear crap- well then you're just plain ignorant. The day Iran has the capability to make a nuclear weapon, they will make one. And they will use it on Israel. It's no secret, their Supreme leader has as much as admitted it. They will not stop until the Jews are gone. So let's stop that before it happens. Extremist Muslim groups and the people that support them must be eradicated from the face of the Earth. I don't want to put my Country's troops in harms way. But I know that if we don't, this problem will never go away. It's either peaceful coexistence, or no existence at all. If they want their 74 virgins for their martyrdom, let's do them a service and give it to them.

Jim:

While I agree that a "legitimate" government should listen to the UN...Let me ask you a question to answer yours: Is the "terrorist" organization Hezbollah answerable to the UN? The answer is simple the terrorist organizations aren't answerable to anyone so a unilateral stand down by Israel is out of the question.

The solution lies in making Jerusalem an International free City like the Hague and not allowing any one of the three major religions that claim it as a Holy site to remain in direct control of it. PEACE!

This is bigger than your understanding Jim. This is about God and his people and you do not have understanding to discern this one. Your natural feelings are wrong and you will eventually see the whole world hating and making war against Israel. If you do not repent you will be with them and without understanding.
This is what will happen to all nations in the battle of Armageddon, that is prophecied already. It will happen and we can not stop it ..
Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

You may laugh and call me a fool, but watch the evening news as it unfolds before your eyes.

The reason the "defend itself" answer does not sit well with me is that by killing innocent civilians and completely demolishing Lebanese infrastructure, Israel does not "defend itself" from Hezbollah. Extremists in Gaza and Lebanon kidnapped military personnel. Now, the innocent people are paying the price. I would not defend Hezbollah's actions. But...

Just try to imagine if, when the IRA was active and engaging in terrorism, England had decided the solution was to bomb the sh*t out of Ireland? Wouldn't we be outraged?! I think the attitudes shown here have a lot to do with a lack of empathy for people who, for whatever reason, the responders do not, and do not try to, identify with (innocent people, let me restate). I think it has a lot to do with race, and it makes me sad.

You're right. The entire world SHOULD deal with them...which is probably what it's coming down to. I don't blame Israel a bit. They tried for peace...You can't negotiate with, or take the word of terrorists. Unfortunately, War is the only way to stop them. The people who think that "if we just leave them alone, all will live in peace"... are delusional....I wish it were true. It isn't.

""Why does the country of Israel ignore the United Nations call for a cease-fire to prevent loss of further life""

A Cease Fire would only allow the SCUM to re group and re supply.

It is a DELAY TACTIC === not PEACE!

All the SCUM have to do is hand back the three? captives and put down their weapons. That would be the stop to the killing.

THEY CAN'T.

The total thought of the Qurán is summed up in;

Qurán 9:5
""The Verse of the Sword""
"" Fight and slay the pegans wherever you find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem""

This shows the LOVE and PEACE that this book and islam is all about!

i guess israel is usinng the same rationale that lebanon did in ignoring resolution 1559 and disarming hezbollah...but hey, that's just a guess. maybe it has to do with the historical bias of the UN. I don't know. maybe it is because call for a cease fire benefits those who kill and kidnap as the sine qua non of a cease fire, the return f kidnapped soldiers has not been agreed to by hezbollah. Who knows, I'm just some guy...

Because a cease-fire would be one sided. The Muslim extremists will never stop shooting.

The Isrealis realize that by fighting, they prevent loss of life. So far about 30 or 40 Isrealis have lost their lives in the Lebanon/Gaza incursions. If they didn't respond militarily, the loss would be far greater.

If no one responds to terrorists with force, do you think they will stop their killing? They won't...

I think Isreal has the right to defend themselves. You have to remember that they gave up the Gaza strip, then they still have to put up with this crap? Think about it this way - what if Mexico kept shooting people in Texas. They said Texas was really theirs and we had no right to it. We fought with them alot. Finally we decide that it isn't worth the hassle, everyone is asking us to give up Texas, so we do. We evacuate the Americans, make them leave their homes with virtually no compensation, and give Texas to Mexico. Then mere months later we are being attacked again, we have soldiers kidnapped from Oklahoma, bombs going off, children being killed etc...
Do you really think we would give a crap what the UN had to say about us bombing the crap out of Mexico? I think not. I think we'd be gathered in the streets screaming for the US government to bomb them into oblivion. (of course there would still be some of us saying "give them Oklahoma too" - but that's beside the point).
Give Isreal a break. They are trying to protect their children too.
