I am leaving to Fort Sill For basic in September. I was Curious if anyone could possibly Fill me in on what its like there. Also If anyone knows about Fort Wauchuca in AZ Yeah I am going there for my AIT. I dont Really know what showers and stuff are like. Beds also Like How hard it really is becuase I get it in my head that things are going to be sooooooo hard but When I do it, It usually turns out to be not AS hard. But Right now I Am exercising and lifting weights and running. SO I am hoping for any kinda of feed back that will help me have a better understanding and also opinions from others who have experienced BCT.

I'm the wife of a Drill Sergeant at Fort Sill. Also, he did is BCT here 18 years ago.
I can tell you that BCT here is not different than any other place. It's going to be what you make of it. You need to listen to what you're being told and follow directions. It's important to work as a team. You will live with, eat with and grow with the guys you train with. You can get some of the best training there is if you try. In September, it's still quite warm, but you won't have to deal with severe heat of summer. Learn to love drinking water though. There are alot of road marches early in the training. Work with the Drill Sergeants and learn from them. There's not really much else I can tell you....it's Basic Training. It's wear you'll learn all your basic needs of the Army. Hand to hand combat, firing a weapon, PT and all that "fun" stuff.
Make use of "free" time on Sundays. Go to church, write letters home and prepare yourself for the next week. Rest every chance you get.
Lawton as a whole isn't bad. It depends on what you like to do and what you make of it. There is worse. You really don't need to worry much about that because in BCT, you won't have many privileges. You won't leave post until graduation. Anything you do on post, you'll be supervised by a Drill Sergeant.
Good luck!! It'll be a long 9 weeks with long days, but you'll do fine!!
EDIT: Sorry, I didn't notice that you asked about sleeping quarters and such the first time. You'll sleep in an open bay on an individual bunk with the rest of your platoon/battery. You'll be so tired that if it's hard or soft, it won't matter. There is no privacy. Showers are a common area. Everything is scheduled....the Drill Sergeants will wake you up, tell you when to shower and "tuck you in".

I was not trained at FT Sill, but I was a trainer for a couple of years and i went there. Most Basics are the same. When you are there you are going to be in one room with all males. Females in another place, but you may do some training with them. The showers are a common room at the end, some have stalls, but it is like 10 shower heads in a room. Believe me you are going to be tired and working hard, you are not going to care about much, but that you got a shower. Is Basic hard, yes, but it can also be easy. Basic is all mental the pyhsical is a side thing, as long as you keep focused, the time will fly. For AIT, you usually have 4-6 guys in one room. Common bathrooms. But just know that when you finish it is nothing like that. Basic and AIT prepare you for living like you would in war. But in active service many service members now have individual or share with only one other person. Better then when I was lower enlisted. around training bases there is usually not a lot to do, cause they don't want you thinking to much about doing somethign else. Just do you time and move on and you will be fine.

First let me say thank you for choosing to serve your country. I didn't go to basic at Fort Sill I did mine at Ft. Benning. Ft. Sill In September is still pretty warm, but the humididty is pretty low it will also be pretty windy at times.
Do your self a favor and start getting in shape now, some running, push ups and sit ups etc.
I take it that your AIT is at Ft. Wauchuca? Ahh Sierria Vista or as more commonly and affectionatly know Ft. we got ya and sorry vista... Not much really going on, but then its a GI town, the desert is pretty cool and your pretty close to Mexico which can make for some wild weekends.

E 1/19FA.... I went to BCT at Ft. Sill on January 11, 2006. It was easy. Its even easier now. BCT is a joke, the biggest thing is the mind game. You'll be fine just do what your told when your told. And i am also from Arizona. Your going to the middle of nowhere. Dont worry though... You'll have fun.

I went to the US Army Field Artillery school at Ft. Sill. It is going to be extremely in Lawton in September. When I went there in winter/spring of '99 it was an all male basic training and now women are there so I am sure it has changed.
Also I live in Oklahoma, and Lawton is a dump. If you were going to give Oklahoma an enema Lawton is where you would stick the tube!!

I went there back in '95. I imagine it has changed alot since then. September is going to start getting cold there. I went in the spring early summer and it got hot. Never been to AZ, I went to FT. Bliss, TX.
Good luck young soldier! email me if you have any other questions

I didn't go to basic there, but I am pretty certain it's like basic everywhere...
Try not to get noticed, do what you're told when you're told, be ready to not get enough sleep, treat it as a game you can win, the team is only as strong as it's weakest member and remember, it's only a few weeks long and you can make it.
