All he does is sniff and pee all over the place, it takes like 30 minutes before he poops. During july 4th, i noticed that he would walk outside, hear a firecracker and poop right then and there and go back inside. Now i just light a firecracker when he takes too long, and presto, poop on demand...Will this harm him?

Wouldn't it be funny if someone threw firecrackers at you everytime you tried to take a sh**? You are gonna give the pup a complex.

I doubt it will physically harm him assuming you are not throwing the firecrackers at him, but it's still a pretty cruel thing to do. Some dogs poop/pee when they are scared or frightened; so you are more than likely freaking out your dog with every firecracker just so he won't take so long. Besides, since he has associated firecrackers with pooping, he may hear a load noise similar to a firecracker (like a car backfiring, etc.) or someone else lighting firecrackers close by and poop where he is - inside or out.

If you can, try putting him on a chain outside once or twice a day, so he can sniff and pee all he wants and poop on his own time. Or if that's not possible, try giving him a treat and lot's of vocal praise when he finally does poop - he'll start associating treats and affection with pooping, and might poop faster to get said treats and affection.

that's kind funny. My dog is scared to death of firecrackers. He won't even go outside for like 2 days after July 4th. Just give your dog a little more time outside, he will go eventually

I went to a dog show once and the trainers put a dampened match in the dogs behind to make him go before going into the show ring. Like a regular match. They dipped it in a little water and put in in and in a few minutes the dog went. I was mortified but the trainer said that after two or three times the dog learns that he needs to go before going into the ring. She swore that it didn't hurt the dog.

As long as you don't shove it up his butt, you should be good. THis is odd though, as firecrackers usually make dogs run in fear. But whatever works!

Perhaps your parents scared the crap out of you as a potty training method. This would explain why you think that such a cruel, hair-brained idea is a good one.

Well it probably scares him so much that he has to. But it could eventually harm his hearing. It's EXETREMELY loud for dogs because they hear every thing 10x louder than humans.

HAHAHAH!!!! Nice!! Keep it far away from him, and just do anything loud it doesn't need to be a firecracker.
