I'm thinking about buying a DVD from Australia which is in Region 4.

my friend just bought a load of dvds in thailand, he cant play them on his player and went to buy a new one, the lady in the shop said if you type region unlocks and the make of ur dvd player in to google a list of codes will come up so u can unlock ur player and play them...whether its illegal i have no idea but if someone in currys can tell u that it cant be that illegal really!

It should be illegall from them to make them have a region in the first place, damn things should work on any disc!!!
