We can't pray or read Bible stories so why should we be able to talk of witches and their beliefs- it seems like a double standard.

Many children's stories have to do with magic. Many stories are actually are about witches. When the word 'God" is said in public schools it is not quoted as "Jesus Christ" but there are many people who are going to lots of legal trouble to take it out because it is offensive to them. Magic is offensive to many christians but it is perfectly okay to read about it in schools. Double standard. I personnaly think we should "include" all beliefs as a form of education. But I think fair is fair and I feel prejudiced against.

Of course no one goes on the PA system for any religion. I am talking about reading stories about witches and spells etc... I used to read stories to a second grade class at lunch and a child wanted me to read a book of Bible stories and I couldn't. Two minutes later a child came up with a book that had magic and witches in it and that was okay to read. I just didn't read- I let them talk instead. Now I am going to work in a private school. I have no problem reading the magic stories so why can't I read the Bible stories? If someone isn't a christian than it is just a story, no more no less. Double standard. For everyone who chose to respond with insults - Jesus loves you anyway- God bless

I agree with you Wica is considered a religion and there fore needs to be banned from all schools IF they are going to continue to keep the Holy Bible banned. We have talked in oue little church about how sad it is that every other "religion" or cult can have a book in the school library but there are to be no Bibles. People will gufaw at me and say I am too religious. I do not care. There are so many regs. regarding schools and the one could give them some peace is thrown out. Yet let a 4th grade boy sexually assault my girl either verbally or by touching and they are trying to figure out how to stop him unless they kick him out of school. I solved the problem nyself. My daughter will be home schooled where she can read her Bible and other Christian related books so I can try and finish raising her as a good girl with a strong set of moral values.

There are no laws saying that an individual cannot pray in public schools. The religion of Christianity is not taught in public primary schools---neither are the religions of Wicca, Hinduism, or Buddhism. The teaching of religions can be an option in high schools and colleges and it is usually labeled "Comparative Religions". This is an unbiased look at various world religions. It is not required, but it can be an option.

Witches are mentioned in fairy tales but witchcraft is not a religion. It is quite clear that these tales are fiction and not the basis for how to perform witchcraft. Besides that, witchcraft is a practice or skill--it need not have anything to do with religion. A Wiccan may or may not practice magic.

WHAT? whatever gave you the idea that Wicca religion is pushed in public schools? does the Principal get on the pa in the morning and ask for a moment of silence to Honor the Goddess? do they say one nation under Isis in the pledge? do they have the rule of three and Blessed Be posted in the halls? no , and if you would not have these things happen you should not try to interject Jesus or the ten commandments into public schools either. and anyone can pray at school to any god they want...in fact most do right before a math test...what is against the law is for a teacher or coach or some other authority figure to lead a group prayer to any religion someone may not believe in.

When I was still in school it seemed more like the christians were trying to make the other kids believe. No one paraded their beliefs like a double standard. Christians carried their bibles and kids of other beliefs talked amongst themselves. No one was told not to pray or speak their beliefs and we had plenty of books with god in them and this was a public school. So I have no idea why people think their are double standards, infact the kids of other religion were looked down upon by everyone else.

I don't remember learning about witches in school- we just learned about what happened in Salem, MA. What school teaches about wiccans and their beliefs? Personally, I think witchcraft is a bunch of hocus-pocus (pardon the pun). I don't think there should be any religion taught in learning institutions at all (except Theology courses in college). I wouldn't want my Jewish teacher teaching me about Christianity, or the other way around. Religion is for church, or temple, or mosque. The only schools that I know of that teach religion are private schools.

What needs to be done is the Bible should be banned in school and any observance of any commandment or suggestion in the Bible should be banned from our society completely. If anyone is found obeying commandments in the Bible they should be put in jail. The 10 commandments especially should be banned and people should be ordered by law to disobey them daily..
BE a great society right????

Nope. It is only Christianity and Judaism that we must ban from our schools. It is okay to promote any religion but those two.

Point well taken. In some school districts, students are forced to live life as Muslims while doing the unit on Islam.

I have to agree with Ray of Sunshine and Yoda.....Wiccans don't gather on school property to pray they don't form covens and recite the Wiccan Rede at school. They don't petition for school funded clubs to support their cause. There is no double standard there. In fact, most schools with strict dress codes actually forbid the wearing of the pentacle but not the cross......There's your double standard.
