I'd say this depends on the type of bite. He may have been just in a playful mood and trying to get you to pay attention and play with him. It could have been a sign of affection - my cat likes to bite my chin when he is really happy. If he meant no harm by it, he still would have run off if he sensed that you were displeased with him.

If there are other people or animals in the house, this could also be a factor. Some cats are very jealous and will get upset with you if you are paying too much attention to another person or animal, or if there is a new person or animal in the house then he may feel threatened, as cats are very territorial.

I've never heard of a cat biting agressively, though, unless they were already attacking with claws and showing other signs of aggrevation. More than likely it seems to me as though he just wanted to play, and didn't mean to hurt you at all.

Is your cat sometimes kissed?

You know, cats don't understand that, except that it is a sign of affection, and they may bite to show affection back. But he may have realized he caused you pain, and run off to avoid punishment.

It may also be a mood swing.

It may also be a sign that he thinks you don't pay him enough attention...

Or any number of other things.

Make sure you play with your cat, and pet him, just so that he feels he is loved, and then you will have better idea why he does things.

Cats (and most animals) bite or nibble as a sign of affection. Of course if you're provoking your cat, then it's not affection. So, you're petting, you're petting, he's purring and licking... OUCH! What the-? He BIT me! Yeah. Yeah, he did. This is their way of showing love. If he ran off afterwards, then he might have been scared that you would get angry (or maybe he just doesn't feel like being pet). ^_^

Love bite! My cat does that to me all the time. Usually when she wants me to pet her and she thinks Im ignoring her lol and jimi, I work in the ER too; cat bites dont require that kind of care unless it broke the skin. Like Ive said, my cat bites me all the time but has NEVER bitten me hard enough to break the skin!

Some cats are just more playful than others..I have two cats and they go up and do that to the dogs because they are just playing...It could be that or it could be that they need something to naw on if thats the case then you should probably take it to the vet and check it out...:)

Sometimes it because of their age. Kittens are especially likely to bite. Older cats sometimes do this when provoked or feeling sick. If the skin was broken, you should probably have it examined by a doctor just to be safe.

Cats do something called "love bites" every now and then. They will nibble on people they love but once in a while bite down. Yeah, it hurts.

Your cat was probably moody. Animals have mood swings like people do so he was probably just grumpy and taking it out on you. Unless you can think of a reason you made him mad then that would be my only reason for it occurring.

cause he can.... used to have a cat that did that... don't hurt it but the next time hold it and stare it right in the eye with any angry face... remember this is an animal no matter how close you are to it. animals respect dominace. be the alpha, and the cat will respect you... i stress don't hurt him... the stare will make him uncomfortable enough.
