I have had about 30 kidney stones in the last 3 years, i past two of them on my own which was very painful, the rest i had to have surgery. I have the calcium oxlate. Do you know which kind you have? If they do the lithotripsy yes that can damage your kidneys if you have this done alot. Right now i have 5 in my left kidney but they are not causing me any pain so they will just leave them there until i have problems. Just make sure you drink plenty of water this helps you stay hydrated so you don't form them. I don't know about any medicine i'm sure your urologist can tell you if there is. Good luck.

There may be more risk of kidney damage by NOT getting rid of the stones. If you are not passing urine freely, there could be a backup. Lithotripsy has been around now for many years and it makes the stones break up and pass freely. I have heard that kidney stones are more painful than childbirth - so I wouldn't wait too long to have this done. Ouch! Protect your kidneys - kidney failure may be treatable - but dialysis for 2-3 hours 3 times a week for the rest of your life is not an ideal way to live.
To prevent kidney stones I've heard that urologists suggest you drink lots of apple juice.

I get kidney stones all the time. Just had 2 last week. The surgery I heard is painless and quick I have heard. They zap the stones with a laser to break them up. I always just passed them... Passing them hurts like you wouldn't believe. You have to pee in a stainer...That is the lovely part of it! Good Luck!

I have had stones a lot of times and have had Lithotripsy done three separate times .They use ultrasonic waves to break up the stones .You are put to sleep because you have to be perfectly still during the procedure .They don't use the water tub any more .They place you on a large water filled balloon looking thing . It is completely painless and you are able to pass the stone a lot easier . Sure beats passing them unbroken .

Medicines won't help, or they would have prescribed them. It's far more dangerous to leave them than have them broken up. The procedure is simple and painless. You lay in a pool of water and and they use something similar to sound waves or laser waves to break them up so you can pass them. If they don't do it, and they begin to move out of your kidneys then you're in for major pain trying to pass them.

Hi
I've had kidney stones about 2 years ago, and laser surgery will not damage your kidneys, I've had no problem since then. Good luck.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.
They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!
This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.
It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

Lasor surgery has been happening for years, and doctors are much better at it. It is a simple procedure, and the risk are minimal. go ahead with the procedure and get one with your life, as I could imagine you are probably having severe pain with the stones, this way you pain will soon be gone. however you need to figure how you got the stones, Diet? if so you need to make changes so you will not get them again, good luck

Laser surgery is perfectly safe and effective and your kidneys are safe. The stones are in the hilum and not the renal parencyma I would imagine.
