Cold compresses and a small dose of IB profen to bring down the swelling.
You could also try a small dose of the medicine Benadryl , that people take for their allergies. Any kind of Benadryl is for allergic reactions, which is what ant bites have given your kid. The swelling and redness is an allergic reaction. If you took her/him to a pediatrian, that is exactly what they'd give.
For an 18 month old give 1/2 the dose of whatever dose it says for a kid age 4-5.

Yes ants can sting. They use formic acid as a killing agent for what ever they are stinging. To help your cat is more important. Use a little bit of hydrocortizone cream 1% and rub it on the swelling about once every three hours for a couple of days. It will take the swelling down and soothe the stinging. Keep very careful watch of where your cat was stung, After a couple of days the spot where your cat was stung may have a small puss sac develope. If that happens lightly wipe it with a facial tissue and put some triple antibiotic on it. It should clear up within a week of so. If it doesn't -- off to the vet. Your cat may paw at the sting not to worry.

It will probably go away. Just keep an eye on the swelling. If she has an allergic reaction then you'll know cause it'll get worse. Most ant bites cause some swelling. At least the red ants out here.

my son, when he was about the same age had ant bites all over his legs and belly. i found out why he had so many bites (about 30-50 or more!) by asking him why he hadn't brushed them off instead of letting the ants bite him? he replied that they were his friends and that they were hungry, so he let the bite him!
noble, but...
i gave him a warm bath with powdered oatmeal in it, then i put on his bites baking soda paste to draw the itching and swelling.
the ant bites seemed to last a bit longer than mosquito bites. as long as they aren't infected or causing him to act 'ill', be patient and they will eventually disappear.

I would just bring your kid to the hospitol if they are Huge swells. because most things you can't give to kids under 2. to relieve the bites a bath in baking soda water. And you can also put calomine lotion or an anti itch lotion. try After Bite for kids it is a creme instead of the stingy stick

Usually, if you call the Doctor's office and ask to speak to a nurse, they can give you sound medical advice. Particularly appropriate dosage information for antihistimines. Some people are severely allergic to ant bites, so keep and eye on it and call 911 if the child has trouble breathing

If your child was bit by fire ants or the like, and it is extrememly red and itching, I would take the child to the doctor. Infection can (and generally does) start with bites like that. Fire ants are mean little critters (I almost died from one bite once). My sons have been bitten and usually had to go on antibiotics because infection started.
