Here are lawful ways to acquire goods:

Purchase with cash or cash equivalent
Receive as payment for services rendered
Acquire through barter or trade
Receive as a gift or charity
Find an unowned item

1. You did not purchase the fruit
2. You did not work for the fruit
3. You did not trade something for the fruit
4. The fruit was not given to you
5. The fruit did belong to the farm owner, (even ground fruit).

Therefore the fruit would have been acquired ILLEGALLY.

But there is a second issue of morality. Which may overshadow the law. If you are starving is it morally acceptable to steal a few fruit? That is a much more grey area.

What if there are children? I think most people would steal to feed children if there was no other option. But myself? I think I would definitely pray to God first. The Bible says he takes care of the birds of the field, how much more will he provide for us since he loves us as his children. Of course maybe the fruit within reach was his way of providing...you never can tell.

That's my two Cents.

Stealing is illegal. You can't just go on to someone else's farm and take something, no matter what it is. Not only that, you would be trespassing which is also illegal.

However...it never hurts to ask the owner if you could pick a few. If it isn't a commercial farm they may be happy to share. On my farm we have two huge apple trees and abundance of mulberry trees, raspberry bushes, and wild asparagus. There is no way that my family could use up all of it that grows. If I saw someone taking any of it without asking I'd call the sheriff and report them for trespassing...but if somebody stopped at the house and asked if they could pick some I would supply them with containers and probably even go out and help them pick.

Hmmm, you used the words "legal" and "steal" in the same sentence. Does that give you a hint?

No, it is not legal to take fruits from a farm or from anyone without asking or paying for it.

Hopefully, you learned this as a child or in kindergarten- taking something that does not belong to you without permission or paying for it is STEALING.

And, it's wrong.

If the farm is selling them I would think so, it may also depend on state laws. But in most cases yes.

No, its is not legal to steal anything. One grape to taste is ok. Taking an apple, orange or peach is not legal.

No it's illegal. If you really needed food that badly you should ask to have some food. If they don't give you any, go to a church or shelter that could give free food.
