Bill Hamilton, I presume? A drunken sot on Saturday nights, the most vulgar songs and jokes you can't imagine. He actually has a great desire to be bodily thrown out out pubs! He works at it, honestly.
And his apartment? AAAhhhh--horrors. One place where he lived was so bad after only six months that the owners simply poured concrete in the door and windows to seal it it forever, then locked the door and plastered over it so the memory would eventually be lost to humankind.
Bill Hamilton had a sailboat, like so many blokes in New Zealand--and he actually succeeding in sinking a Kiwi destroyer. He was in a dead drunk at the time and hit the warship at just the right angle and sank it in 15 minutes! You should have seen the sailors scrambling to escape their sinking vessel. What is so odd is that the judge ruled the incident as an Act of God, a pure accident, and Bill was let out onto the sidewalks of New Zealand to continue his pillage of civilization Down Under.
So, there's your answer. Bill Hamilton is dangerous to be around. OK?

Well, most places in NZ are OK compared with your average third-world place or the worse areas of Britain, where I come from, or American ghettos and slums. But I've spent a total of 24 hours in Hamilton and nearly died of boredom. It's the only major population centre in NZ which isn't on the coast. It's got the highest suicide rate in NZ. Worldwide, inland places seem to have more suicides. The sea has a soothing effect. Interesting to see that it's modelled on Hamilton, Scotland. I didn't know that, but I believe it. I've been there too. I spent about 10 minutes driving through it on the way to Glasgow. Scots are nice people but the town was ratshit. Hamilton NZ has the Waikato River. It's got a good university, it's close to Rotorua and Taupo, but bugger all else to recommend it.

It's an exact replica of Hamilton in Scotland. In the early 1900's a cloning project took place and several towns from around the world were recreated in distant countries. If you've ever visited Hamilton Scotland then you' know the answer to your question.

The tron is great.
40mins away to wicked surfing in Raglan, 90mins to gorgeous beaches near the Mount. Couple of hours and you're down boarding on Whakapapa or jumping out of aeroplanes over Taupo. Go crawl under ground in Waitomo or jump off the many bridges into the mighty Waikato!
And if you're desperate Auckland aint far, though I wouldn't reccommend it!
Hot air balloons, Mooloo and Field-Days.
Wow.
Where else in God's own do you have so much, so near?
The grass is always greener in Hamilton.

Crappy hole. Definitely not the best spot in NZ. And I know because I lived there, I only moved there for work purposes not because I wanted to. In the summer it gets muggy and there is nowhere to swim except public pools with kiddy piss or a dirty river. When I lived there we would drive for about an hour to either Tauranga or Raglan just for a swim. And in the winter it can be really foggy and just has a miserable feel about it. I would definitely look for somewhere else to live, visit, holiday, what ever you are planning.

nice place
summers are good - winter is not wintry like snowy - its bearable winters
sometimes winters can be harsh - but this year - winter was just for 2 months - now though we are in winter - it is bloody hot
its much much less expensive than auckland or wellington
its a small place - where everyone knows everyone (lol)
there is a big university - home rentals are affordable
and you will never get lost in Hamilton - like you would do in London or NY
cabbies are friendly
crime rate is very minimum

Good question. I've been there before on a roundtrip some years ago, but I can't really remember how it was in Hamilton. However, NZ is cool!

It's a rural city based alongside NZ's biggest river and about 1 hour drive from Auckland ( nz's biggest city ) it is basically a service city for a very large farming area. population is around 150,000 ppl, it offers most of the usual big city attractions as far as pubs, bars, and restaurants are concerned. It gets quite cold in winter, fog is quite common.

It sucks. Simple as that.
It's got one street (main street). It's got good restautants but after a week there you've tried them all. It's got a good river. The bars are not very good. The people are either rednecks or Mauri who just want to kill you.
Give it a miss.
