Wow, thank you...alot of you have blessed me and brought me to tears w your stories...May God continue to bless those that follow HIS commandments...

BTW, did you know that tithing is the only thing in the Bible that God tells us to prove him on? And yes, tithing IS in the Bible...

Malachi 3:8-11
"Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and PROVE me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of Heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that their shall not be room enough to receive it.
And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts."

I have to start by saying that tithing is in the Bible. It asks how you rob God then it says in your tithes and offering. It can't get much plainer than that. While you can not pay for salvation, if you truly love God ou will keep his commands. Also, although it goes to the church for the upkeep of the buildings and utilities, it is also how God provides for the pastor and ministry of the church.

And now back to the original question :) I have seen plenty of times God has blessed when my husband and I have been faithful in giving God His portion. We would start out not knowing where the money was coming from and before we got through with the bills it was all paid for with a little left over. People don't realize that God promised to keep the devourer from your home when you pay your tithes. By not paying tithes, we invite a curse on our homes, children and grandchildren. I have never seen a time when my husband and I didn't have the things we needed. It was all because of God's faithfulness.

We live in Florida and our house was hit pretty hard when hurricane Ivan came through in 2004. We needed a new roof, had some water damage inside the house and our fence was totally gone. We had been tithing for a long time but after the storm we were really torn on doing it because we really needed the money to fix our house. We went ahead and tithed like normal and two days later we received a check in the mail from our home church in Ca. for $1500 to help pay for expenses!! We have had a few examples of how tithing is wonderful happen to us but that was the big one.

A week or two after deciding to start tithing, I had to adhere to a more strict dress code at work. I went out to get some new clothes. I was able to get five shirts and five pairs of pants for a total o $110. Then I found $50 in the parking lot.
A few weeks later, I received a check from a cell phone contract that I hadn't had for over 4 years. They returned a security deposit of $250. I had no idea they even owed me the money.

OKay, I didn't tithe the ten percent. I give 20$ every Sunday that I have it.

So one Sunday I had 40$. My family had planned this event to go to Red Lobster to celebrate all the May birthdays. So of course I was thinking how am I going to give 20 for church and then feed me and my two boys off of 20$ bucks.

So, I put the 20 in church like usually and planned to eat on a budget. We go to Red Lobster and I was one of the May birthdays but since I'm 26 I figured that no one remembered or that much cared.

By the end of the night I had gotten 5 cards each with 20$ and some loose money. Some one else paid for my meal and I tipped the waiter 10$.

Moral of the story: I gave to God as usual and knew that he would come through for me. For my believing and trusting him and not putting money before him... he blessed me five times over.

My husband has been laid off or working seasonal jobs for the past 3 years, since I was pregnant with our second child. God has provided immensley for us during that time in more ways than I could list. I try to be faithful tithing, but sometimes there isn't any money at all - seriously, NO money. God always provides. For example, this past Jan. I had car insurance due, bills due, rent due, and no money. The very day I had to get the bills sent out, my husband received a check he wasnt expecting for some work he helped a friend several months back, and it came to within $5 of exactly what I needed! I was so happy, then I realized that I still wouldnt have money for groceries. Hmmmm. There showed up in the mail that same day a check for $200 - enough for groceries for two weeks. The story keeps going. God provides for His children.

all I know is that I was not tithing for a long time because I could not pay all the bills but it was eating away at me because I know that we are supposed to. We listen to a lot of christian talk radio and I kept hearing about tithing, how it needs to done EVEN if all the bills don't get paid, I felt very convicted, and I started tithing, no matter what it came off the top. and I have to tell you somehow it always works out. There is always enough to get the bills paid, we have enough to get what we need, not always what we want, but that too I believe is part of being a true christian, God does not promise to make you a fat cat but he does take care of us. I do not believe in the 'name it and claim it ' form of religion at all. Plain and simple..it is part of being a christian to pay you 10%, and at least God does not keep increasing that amount like all the other bills do!! God Bless you and yours.

I have been a faithful tither for over 11 years. I have never been broke, my checkbook always balances. I had a worker's comp case reversed in my favor, I've had healings inside and out! Praise the Lord. He said to prove Him and see if He would not pour out a blessing I could not contain (it runs all over the place!) and He would rebuke the devourer for MY sake. Wow What an awesome God. It is a pleasure to tithe...not for what's in it for me but for the fact that it pleases God when we obey Him.

Sure do! God has blessed us abundantly. Our car never has major problems. We always get our bills paid. We always have plenty of food to eat and clothes to wear. God provided us a 3 bedroom home for $1000 right at income tax return time, when we had the money. There have been times when money was tight that we found a $20 bill in the glovebox of the truck or $75 in my backpack that we KNOW wasn't there before. There have been times that the church has helped us out. I probably couldn't even list all the times that God has blessed us. We are happier now than we have ever been.

Oh, did I mention? We don't make much money.

Side note: Christians were NEVER told to tithe. In the gospels, Jesus was talking to Jews for whom it was a command. The phrase "tithes and offerings" refers to the tithe, essentially a tax which paid a salary to the priests who managed the temple and covered temple expenses, and the 'offerings' which were mostly used in benevolent works. The portions of the New Testament after the 4 gospels were written to Christians about life under the Christian "system." There is never a command to tithe in those writings.

The early church did not maintain a treasury. The church (individual Christians) in Corinth was told to put money away each week: 1Co 16:1 Now I want to deal with the offering of money for God’s people. Do what I told the churches in Galatia to do. 2 On the first day of every week, each of you should put some money away. The amount should be in keeping with how much money you make. Save the money so that you won’t have to take up an offering when I come.

"The amount should be in keeping with how much money you make." No set portion was said. ALL other texts on the subject addressed to Christians are similar to this.

The apostles said the gift of the holy spirit was free.
When a certain man offered to pay for this the apostles condemed him.
when you pay tithing your paying people. God doesn't get your money. Take the money and use it to help someone.
Most preachers are rich. You are giving to rich people in hopes of getting rich yourself. Do you see something wrong with this?
When God had the nation of Isreal pay 10% that was taxes.
Meant for the public good. Most Kings required 10% as taxes.
