The lake of fire will be when the destruction of the earth is met and the river of life is in the new earth that will be after the judgement and lake of fire.

Revelation is written in symbols: Nothing in Revelation is literal.
The lake of fire symbolizes complete distruction. People realize nothing could survive a lake of fire.
The truth from the bible is call waters of truth.
The river of life is waters of truth that God has given us in the form of the bible. Many times there is mentions trees of life.
Other places it shows these trees of life are actually bible truths.
As firm and lasting as a tree.

Lake of Fire is this earth after Jesus' judgement, after the millenium. That is when Satan and all who follow him will be destroyed. River of Life is in Heaven.
