Many, many facotrs in play with this question. The short answer is: Not more than they can handle...

The longer answer: I think people should definitely take into account how many they can handle financially (kids are expensive)... they should also think about the challenges of parenthood-- how many parent/teacher conferences can they go to without making themselves crazy.... how many sets of homework can the handle in one night.... how many kids can the size of their house handle.... How many college tuitions can they afford to help with.... How much do they like making really big meals... How many pairs of sneakers can they afford to buy at the end of every summer.... lots to think about with this question....

And, yes, sometimes I think it is irresponsible to have tons of kids when you're not making much money.... Sometimes I think it's not right for people to get big tax breaks for having tons of kids either.... Kids are a choice.... People need to think before they act.

Okay... I'm off my soapbox. :)

is the kid going to live in a good home where there's a mom and dad that love eachother and are commited to eachother through marriage? If so, then as many as you want and can afford. Don't be a burden on society.
If you arent' married or if you fight a lot, then no kids, don't be selfish.

Why? Kids aren't a game--they're not a joke. Having kids is a life-changing event. You have to be ready financially, mentally, and physically. I have 2.

I would say as many as you like but more then one, I don't believe in having a single child because he has to have someone to play with and learn from.

As many as:
1. They want
2. They can afford (I mean kids make money tight but not having running water...eeeehh.)

Provided that the parents are psychologically stable of course. We don't need any more psychos reproducing.

A good rule of thumb today:
Spoil one and starve two.
you have as many as you can afford to raise properly and educate.
I have one and my son has two. He's doing a magnificant job with them.
