According to the BMI (Body Mass Index) calculator, his BMI is 23.7, which means he is normal (anything between 18.5 and 24.9 is normal). However, for his age, I thik he might be going a little bit overboard. Make him exercise more often, ration his junk food (making sure he can only eat junk food once a week), and make sure he goes on a healthy balanced diet.
Another thing I have to say is that he's very body-conscious, especially if he cares about his weight at 12. He might lose it during his growth spurt, though, so stay hopeful.

Your son is 12, almost 13. He is in the stage where often lots of boys gain excess weight and carry it around for their puberty years ahead. Girls do the same thing.
Normally, boys who gain this weight lose it in their earlier years of high school as their muscle develops and they get into sports. But muscle development won't happen if he continues to stay inside all the time and play videogames.
Maybe you could limit how much he plays videogames, or go outside and do something with him. Try and make your son love the outdoors, as it will be beneficial for him later.
Also, when you run out of fatty snacks from your last grocery store visit, go back and get healthier food, no junk at all and see what happens.
If you really are concerned for your son's weight, the two of you should make a few lifestyle changes together, mainly diet and exercise. It will be MUCH easier for him if you are there along with him, and you two can keep each other in line.
Another thing, WATER, JUICE, or MILK! No more pop, mom! And you can even try vitamins if you don't already. Try buying a cookbook from a yard sale or something that will show you how to cook healthy and tasty.
Good luck!

Well, I think he's fine.. and if he's 12.5... then not only would his classmates be thinner.. they would also be shorter..
With his height and weight, his Body Mass Index is 23.. the completely normal range is 20-25.. he's right in the middle.
The recommended weight for his height is 136.. he's fine.. but if HE wants to lose a few pounds.. then that should be his choice.

Try some online BMI Indicators:
Here are some results based on your info:
A 12 year and 6 months old (male) child
who is 138 pounds
and is 5 feet and 4 inches tall has
a body mass index of 23.7,
which is at the 93th percentile,
and would indicate that your child is at risk of becoming overweight.

Your son sounds so much like my son that it's unreal! My son will be 12 in two weeks, and he's 5' 6 and weighs 157 lbs. When I look at him, I see that he's a little over-weight, but he's not rolling to get out of bed in the morning or anything like that. He eats a lot of McDonald's probably just like your son, and that has a lot to do with it as well as sitting in one spot playing PS2 all day long. I try to get him to eat different things like Subway or salads and sometimes he eats it, but he always goes back to eating Mc. D's. I'm gonna get him into playing soccer or something this season so he won't get any bigger.

That is a bit on the heavy side, for that age and hieght. Though it's not bad. He does need to get away from the video games and out into the real world for some exercise or even good long walks and hikes.

normal weight doesnt exist -
you do not want a high level of body fat - but you shouldnt expect someone that young to be at an athelitic level of BF
personally by you comment I think you are concerned he isnt playing sports (vs. video games) or exercise stuff
do stuff with him together - I dont know you fitness levels - but children typically achieve the same levels as their parents - the biggest role model they will ever have
I like to say "get your sweat on" but do it togehr

Your son is almost 10 stone,im a 36 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous lady im 5ft 2 and im 10 stone. that's no way close to a classic weight for a 12 and a 0.5 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous. My buddy has an 11 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous daughter and she or he's 7 stone and shes confident shes fat. you particularly might desire to get your son right into a wellbeing plan, eliminate the laptop and so on. whilst i grew to become into growing to be up there grew to become into not often any over weight young little ones beacuse we didnt sit down in on a working laptop or laptop(as a results of fact there grew to become into no computers) we didnt sit down in on play stations(as a results of fact there grew to become into none) and we didnt sit down in observing the television as a results of fact we had lots of acquaintances and have been continuously out. Get your boy off his in the back of and get him exterior and get him in good shape. Its your fault your boy is obese, you enable him to sit down down infront of the television, you enable him to sit down down at his laptop all day/nighttime, you enable HIM Get out which incorporate your boy and get him in good shape and healthful, his wellbeing is the main considered necessary element, your not prolonging his existence via letting him get into this state.
