If you want to be super propper here is the deal:
1. Do not order spagetti for a business lunch / dinner.
2. Typically do not order it when on a date.
3. Don't order it when you are wearing white.
4. If you are still going to have it , have a "Shout brand" stain removal whipe available, as well as an "Altoid" mint for after dinner.
Spagetti is typically not eaten during any event when you hope to impress someone because it is difficult to eat gracefully.
Your best hope is to treat it somewhat like a casarole. Using a fork in your right hand and a knife in your right try to cut the noodles into a bite sized area.
Twirling your noodles around your fork like wrapping yarn into a ball is considered revolting by high society. Since you never know how the other person was raised, it is better to be safe than sorry.
If you are at an even where everyone is eating speagetti, and twirling seems to be the norm, you may twirl, but using a spoon is excessive, the fork can be held against the plate to perform the same task. Remember the goal is to prevent the modest amount of noodles on your fork from dangling. NOT to wrap half the plate into one bite.
In any situation, if there is a noodle left dangling from your mouth, you should never attempt to slurp it up to join your mouth. Clip it off with your teeth, letting the extra fall back onto the fork, or plate if it is not too far away.
This is the main reason why spagetti is so ungraceful to eat. The dangling noodle. It always looks uncivilized. If makes almost any adult look like a child playing with their food.
That being said. I love spagetti, I eat it at home almost once a week. I cut the noodles with the side of my fork, and make sure I have a huge napkin. Then I squish the garlic bread into the sauce...Mmm garlicky.
But if you are out with guests? No mushing the garlic bread any where. And no puting noodles or sauce ontop and eating it that way either.
Good Luck!

You can start by cutting the pasta with a knife and fork into more manageable lengths so it is easier to eat. The spaghetti should be twirled around your fork, but don't put too much on it. There should be no more than three layers of spaghetti on your fork. If a piece of the spaghetti is dangling outside of your mouth, don't suck it in. Either bite it off or neatly use your fork to guide it into your mouth. Make sure to use a napkin to pat off any face sauce (-:

I eat spaghetti this way but not for the sake of being proper... I believe you eat in the way you are most comfortable with... Anyway, I was taught that when you are served spaghetti (With the sauce and cheese over it of course), you do not mix the pasta with the sauce. You just eat it as it is and you twirl it around with your fork. Never slurp. Never make noise. In my experience, with all the initial twirling of your food, the spaghetti's gonna get mixed anyway... So there...

Successful way to eat spaghetti depends on the position of the spoon: in addition to helping to collect the pasta, it should be used to shield the sauce from the eater and companions.
A University professor discovered the secret of eating spaghetti without splattering sauce over tablecloths and fellow diners, after conducting laboratory experiments during his lunchbreaks.
Colin Humphreys, a professor of Material Science at the University of Cambridge, made the discovery after he and his colleagues carried out experiments in his departmental tearoom and laboratories to calculate the "kinetic energy, centrifugal force and co-efficient of friction" for different kinds of pasta.
The scientist and his team, which specialises in semiconductors and electron microscopy, were commissioned by Tesco, the supermarket chain, to research the tidiest and most efficient way of eating pasta.

According to all those "proper manners" books you should twirl it on a fork. Personally, I just dig in and enjoy! That's what spaghetti is all about anyway. Put a napkin around your neck and let the noodles fall where they may!

Flip the end in your mouth and suck it up.
Seriously, use a fork and spoon. Fork some of the strands and spin against the spoon to wind it up on the fork. Eat and enjoy.
