Hint: check Treaty of Tripoli. What then, does this mean to American Christian theocrats?

This sentence is in the Treaty of Tripoli, ratified by our Congress in 1797. In other words, the very people who founded our nation signed their names to a document stating in no uncertain terms that they did not found this government on the christian religion. Maybe a better question is 'why don't you believe them?'

'in god we trust' was added to our money during the mccarthy era to prove that we weren't godless communists (since you couldn't tell by our actions?)

I'm not interested in the Muslim Version of the Treaty - we know they are theocrats.

Our version of the treaty does not talk about god in every paragraph.

Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

It doesn't matter that this was America's first treaty with another government. It doesn't matter that this document was ratified by congress . To the people who believe that America should be a right-wing theocracy, this was just a letter written by one man who didn't really represent the common belief of the time.

When we look at the time period of the founding of our nation, we do see a majority of christian beliefs among the population. We even know that many of the founding fathers had a deeply held belief that there was a god.

We must also note that they had a perfect understanding of human nature and decided that religion should never determined by government. By not promoting any specific religion, it represents all of them. The truth is, democracy is not a biblical principal. The type of government they were forming was a new thing. It was an experiment. So far, over 200 years later, the experiment is still underway. We will continue to perfect it. We will continue to learn from it.

The biblical political system is monarchy or priest/prophet led government. Even Jesus accepted the Roman Emporer as the ruler of the land. Not once do we hear a word about government by the people, for the people. It wouldn't be heard from for 2000 years.

When we accept our secular government... one that doesn't promote any specific religion, but represents ALL of them, we must understand that it isn't a spiritual matter.

Spirituality is about YOUR relationship with YOUR god. Not about OTHER people's lack of relationship with YOUR god.

It shouldn't be so dificult for people to MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS.

The very same governmental freedom that allows you to be christian allows other people the freedom to NOT BE. You should defend that freedom, not fight against it.

No it was not based on the Christian religion that is obvious if it where. Porn, Muslims, Buddhist and all other religions would be non existent. We would be like the Muslim and Hindu nations not allowing any religion outside of Christianity.
It was how ever based on a Creator, Lord, God and morals using the bible.
Read the constitution,Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation etc....
Oh by the way the Treaty was broken in 1801 by the Pasha of Tripoli and renegotiated in 1805 after the First Barbary War, at which time Article 11 was removed.

I say that the U.S. of A., was based on the Christian idea or ethic - BUT - it was not based on the direct principles of Jesus Christ. The evidence is clear; Mass Murder of Native American Indians and theft of land gained in blood. The Bible says, woe to them who's cities who's foundations are built on blood.

Then there's the slave trade issues.

If murdering and slavery is against the very fundamental principles of Christ then these United States was not built on the trust Jesus left in the hands of Gentiles.

HOWEVER - God did bless America for her recognition of God as their sovereign. Those days are gone, and today the American government (and sub governing bodies) have given God his walking papers and swapping the Christian ethic for Islam, allowing ONLY MUSLIM Prayers and the Quran over the Christian prayer and Bible.

They have even gone the extra expense in some cases to providing a special prayer room to accommodate Muslims - something the Christian's never needed and was never a special financial burden on the Tax-payer.

America has swapped the God of the Jews and Christians for the false god of Islam.

One mans statement effects the country? I dont think so. No matter how you slice it, the Christian philosophy was practiced and is deeply ingrained in the fabric of this country. God made sure by placing BC(before Christ) and AD(year of our Lord) into even the secular textbooks. Of course as of late their is an attempt to corrupt that with -Before the common era(BC). AD still thrives through.

the first modification does no longer rigidity faith on absolutely everyone. In that experience, it isn't any longer a Christian usa. in spite of the indisputable fact that, the underlying fabrics and moral compass got here from Christian concepts. a number of those concepts are equivalent justice, equivalent chance, individualism, charity, individual salvation and divine providence. it truly isn't any longer to assert this fabrics became adhered to. Slavery became an glaring tear in it, which became finally healed by technique of a Christian revival. Christian concepts are also the middle of what American freedoms are base on. The rights that are defined contained in the statement of Independence and secure contained in the structure are organic rights. those are individual rights that are practiced by technique of the fellow. they do no longer require an outdoors enabler, like authorities, to cause them to artwork. they're defined as being given by technique of God (i.e. "The author) to guy. Being so, they could't be taken away by technique of authorities. it truly is in stark assessment to Collective (human) rights that different international places have. They obligate authorities to create, outline and adjust rights. they offer authorities an excuse to be creative and make itself the middle of it is peoples' lives.

the truly unenlightened.

nowhere in the constitution, the bill of rights, the ammendments or in the declaration of independence does it state that religion is to be banned from schools and public places.

in fact, the declaration of independence does reference the creator and all of our governing bodies are sworn into office using the bible and an oath to God.

No one said (or wrote) it. Here's a more accurate copy of the 1796 Treaty of Tripoli: http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/diplomacy/barbary/bar1796e.htm

Please draw your attention to the 1930 commentary regarding the infamous "11th Article," which reads:

"The eleventh article of the Barlow translation has no equivalent whatever in the Arabic. The Arabic text opposite that article is a letter from Hassan Pasha of Algiers to Yussuf Pasha of Tripoli. The letter gives notice of the treaty of peace concluded with the Americans and recommends its observation. Three fourths of the letter consists of an introduction, drawn up by a stupid secretary who just knew a certain number of bombastic words and expressions occurring in solemn documents, but entirely failed to catch their real meaning. Here the only thing to be done by a translator is to try to give the reader an impression of the nonsensical original:

Praise be to God, who inspires the minds of rulers with causes of well-being and righteousness! The present matter may be in the interest of the land and the servants [of God], in order that things may be put in their place. This whole affair has been opened [by omission of one letter the Arabic reads "victories" instead of "opened"] by the intermediary of the exalted, honored Prince, the Lord Hassan Pasha, in the protected [by (rod] Algiers, may God strengthen him and give him victory and help him in accomplishing good things; thus in the beginning and in the end, and may the acquiescence in his order take place by considering all his affairs, and may his endeavor repose on the fitness of his reflection. So may God make it, the beginning of this peace, a good and graceful measure and an introduction having for result exaltation and glorification, out of love for our brother and friend and our most beloved, the exalted Lord Yussuf Pasha, [here follows the same word as in Article 10: al-munshi?, "residing" or "governing"] in the well-protected [by God] Tripoli, may God strengthen him by His grace and His favor, amen! Because our interests are one and united, because our aim is that acts may succeed by overthrowing justice, and the observance [of duty?; of treaties?; of the Sacred Law?] becomes praiseworthy by facts entirely, amen ! by making successful safety and security by permanence of innumerable benefits and pure and unmixed issue. Prosperity accompanies highness and facilitation of good by length of the different kinds of joy makes permanent. Praise be to God for the comprehensive benefit and your perfect gifts, may God make them permanent for us and for you, thus till the day of resurrection and judgment, as long as times last, amen!"

Furthermore, each Treaty section begins with "Praise be to God!" The Treaty also REPEATEDLY acknowledges America is a CHRISTIAN NATION.

What does this have to do with today?

Maybe so, but why is it this treaty is no longer valid? Did you see WHEN this treaty was killed? Your argument isn't valid.
