A person's value should have nothing to do with their size, skin color, hair color, nose or eye shape, etc.
Loving yourself can still be motivation to loose weight- If you love yourself, you want what will make yourself strong, healthy, etc.
Self-hate, self-loathing isn't healthy either, no matter what you weigh.
Sadly, what I find disgusting is people who are rude and inconsiderate. Even fat people deserve love and respect... Sheesh!

Sorry, don't buy into the "Shame" method of weight loss. Every person is different and so is the path that brought them to their obesity. How they break that cycle of obesity is just as unique as that person. Sometimes its just a slow slide into obesity and one day you realize that there is a problem.. Not terribly different then the alcoholic who realizes he's a drunk. Hitting a bottom can often be the starting point for someone with a severe weight problem but how do you tackle say a 100lb weight loss? It almost seems hopeless? I think a group consciousness is required to help that person stay focused, stay positive and set realistic weight loss goals. I think a person has to have some sense of "Body acceptance" in order to stay the course take control of there weight. I'm glad that is not me because I'm not sure I could find the inner strength to overcome such a handicap but I certainly support the efforts of everyone who has the problem and tries to make a healthy change.

You speak YOUR truth. You seem to have that attitude that overweight people need to be fixed. Whatever happened to accepting people for who they are, physically and as humas? People, all people, are way more than who they are physically. Sure, that's a part of them, but not all. If you see an overweight person and that's all you are able to see, then the one with the problem is you.
I'm overweight, and i'm also a good person, friendly, caring, have goals and dreams, hard working, adventurous, smart and more. I'm not disgusted with myself, i am who i am and this is the best i can be right now. But that doesn't define my life. I have way more important things to do than worry about the diet of the week. I'm busy LIVING.

Well I think it's people like you that keep those people from having high self-esteem in the first place. I speak the truth.
I also think that there's a difference between having high self-esteem and thinking that an unhealthy lifestyle is okay. And that maybe you should worry about your own life and not the self-esteem of people you don't even know.

There's a difference between self-esteem and health. Obese people with poor self-esteem are more likely to eat themselves into a depression and gain more weight, while the ones that have a good self-image are more likely to be active and the weight will come off better.

I don't think you speak "the truth" If they don't love themselves how would they want to change themselves. Do you know that the depression they feel drives them to eat sometimes. Because it is a comfort to them. But I also feel that I have never been obese so I can't truly say how an obese person should or should not feel in order to
change.

I think that outlook on it is crazy. People should love themselves no matter what. Living with disgust and shame of ones self is very damaging!

well i think it is good because if they have a good self -esteem then they must be comfortable with themsleves and its really their choice if they want to lose weight or not , unless it is suggested by a medical professional that they should ,if so, then i agree with your statement .

Everybody should have good self esteem. Opinions (which is what you speak) are like @ssholes, everybody has one.
