Technically, a female dog can go into season any time after 6 months old. However, in my experience (a kennel of 30 Siberians and 20 years working with them), most of my girls wait until more like 8 months. I think you should be safe, but now that I've said that, I've probably jinxed you! :)
Good luck with the surgery -- things will be so much easier with your little girl spayed!

Actually, she could go into heat just about any time now. Between 6 and 10 months old is usually the first heat. I have a Llewellin Setter that is 11 months old, and has not showed signs of going in to heat. I talked to my vet and he said there is such a thing called a "silent" heat, where they have a heat, but it is not noticeable. So if you don't want her to breed with just any dog, keep her in, or kenneled outside. If you jus let her out by herself, be sure she is with someone. It is not recommended for the dogs health to allow breeding on first heat. Should wait until at least 2nd heat. We wait till the dog is 18 months to 2 years old before we allow specific breeding. So just keep an eye out for swelling of the vulva, and a pinkish tinged discharge.
Hope this helps.

Sometimes it is difficult to tell the cycle has begun. But expect her first cycle within the next 3 months.
Please do not breed her at this age though. She is still just a puppy herself and a litter now could be very dangerous to her. As the previous poster said, wait at least until she is 2 or 2 1/2 when she's no longer as puppy as she is now.
Please consider having her spayed too. A spayed dog is a happier dog. Spayed she is also less likely to develope uterine infections, ovarian cancers, cysts and other life-threatening health problems.

All dogs will normally come in, at 6 to 9 months of age, on the larger breeds it is best not to breed then until they are 18 to 24 months of age!
