Why are some ball point pens being made with anti-bacterial areas where the pen is held? Does this work?

I haven't seen it. But it sounds like still another clever marketing ploy to prey on germ-o-phobes. You will get your germs on different parts of a pen, so by having an anti-bacterial zone this will not be of much help. And how long could an anti-bacterial zone remain effective anyway?
