The busses usually stop about every 90 minutes or so but check ahead, I took a bus from Istanbul to Selcuk and they stopped three times in about 4 hours until we got to a bus stop/ store/ gas station - then it was 4 hours to Izmir and having stopped so frequently I bought a coke and some water, and they have tea on the busses (and lemon water to freshen up your face - it's kind of nice), well with no bathroom, and a 4 hour stretch I was about to explode by the time we got to Izmir, then my one hour bus (last one of the day) was leaving 4 minutes after I arrived, so I had to run to it and wait another hour. I was a bit uncomfortable to say the least.

it takes about 11-12 hours by bus.. u can also take a plane from Istanbul if u don't like such a long journey. it's almost 50 minutes by the plane.. if it's the first time u come to Turkey, take the bus and enjoy the view..
