Ok myself and this guy have been talkin.We've known each other for10 yrs. He's in the military overseas right now. Well everytime he's in town we talk. We flirt but never get to see each other bc of confliciting schedules. We both obviously have feelings for each other. He calls my mom his mother in law. Well we've been talkn lately and he e-mailed me and said "So are we gonna hook up?" Well like everyone knows it can mean alot of different things. I just wanted to know what you guys think it means. I know it can mean sex, dating, or just going to dinner. Which one do you think applies to my situation? By the way he won't be home for a year & it's not like we can have sex or go to dinner when we're 100000000 miles apart.

If he won't be home for a year I certainly hope your seeing other guys! You could be just someone he sees when he's home. You should email him and ask him exactly what he means by 'hook-up'...tell him that it means a lot of things in your circle of friends and your curious as to what it means to him.

My opinion to this situation is that when he wrote "hook up", i would say that it means he wants to date you and take you out for dinner. I know you both live so far away from one another and you rarely get to see one another, but when the time comes that you guys do get to be together than take intence advantage of that if you guys have already been flirting with each other, then you both feel it. Since he's already callin your mom for mother in law he obviously see's a future with the two of you and he wants to see you maybe in a different perspective as you being his girlfriend. I honestly think he means that he wants to start dating you, so take that chance now. Good luck girl!!

I have come to understand "hookin up" has a lot of different meanings but the most prevalent is "having sex". Since he won't be home for a year, this isn't an immediate problem & I think you can wait until he gets home before finding out HIS definition of hookin up. If he should bring it up again, tho, ask him what he thinks it means. I've found that direct honest open communication is the best way to go & that way nothing is left to chance. It can mean many things, it could be maybe dinner or a date. It could be marriage, but I'm not really sure.

Hook up can be everything from going on a date, meeting, to having relations....in your case, it might even mean marriage....

Considering the context, I think that "hook up" means, "when are we going to meet?".
I think that you are over analyzing.
