I sold a guy a camera lens. It was packed in such a way that unless it got hit by a nuclear bomb it wouldnt be damaged, yet he now says it arrived with the actual lens glass broken. I posted it to him registered delivery but without any extra insurance as he said he wasnt prepared to pay more. I have asked him to send pictures of the alledged damage. What else can i do. The guy sent me so many messages before buying it and also offered to deal outside of Ebay... any suggestions please.

If he declined to insure the item, the damage is his problem. However be aware that he will most likely post a negative report on you as a seller.
You may also use eBay resolution service to help you get this matter resolved.
Good Luck

This is a scam... and, when he offered to deal outside of ebay, he violated the sites rules. Tell him to shove it.

Put a stipulation in your listing that you are not responsible for damaged items unless insurance is purchased, and don't leave feedback until they leave it for you.

Tell him to send it back to you, and if he doesn't do not reimburse his money.

Once the item is back with you check for damage.
