12 months is the time you should start to give children and then it should be full fat milk until the age of 5.
It is nothing to do with iron there is none in milk but is because of the way the milk breaks down in the gut. Children need a diet rich in iron and high in fat due to they way they develop, unlike adults who need low fat and high fibre.

I waited until my DD was 1 year old before I gave it to her as her main drink, although she did have it cooked in sauces etc from about 7 months. There are a number of reasons for that. The protien in cows milk is harder to break down. Cows milk does contain bacteria (MAP has been linked with Crohns disease). Babies need certain vits and minerals that cows milk lack. However if you are just giving it as a drink and are boiling it first and not counting it toward daily milk intake its probably not a problem.

it particularly is often ideal to attend till a 300 and sixty 5 days. maximum toddlers' digestive structures are nevertheless too immature to digest the complicated proteins in cow's milk. (Heck, many adults won't be ready to digest it... our bodies weren't outfitted to drink cow's milk!) I truthfully have on no account heard of a physician recommending it earlier a 300 and sixty 5 days. in case you do change to cow's milk earlier then, be valuable it fairly is homogenized and that i might additionally propose supplementing it with breastmilk or an infant formulation.

I started my daughter on whole milk at 9 months, but only after talking to her pediatrician. I was breastfeeding and she stopped all on her own one day at 9 months. I tried pumping and giving her a bottle and a sippy cup. I tried formula in both. She wanted nothing to do with any of them. My only option was whole milk, but I called the doctor first to make sure.

The reason that you're not supposed to give babies cow's milk before the age of one is because of the high iron content.
It's just too much iron for their little bodies to absorb! Cow's milk is meant for calves remember? and their a tad bigger than our little ones...
