Violence begets violence.
This is wrong on so many different levels. How old is his girlfriend? Why is she drinking? Have you called her parents? You are the adult, and yes, he is still a child. Truancy is totally unacceptable. Going to another school to beat up another boy is unacceptable. Just think, what if the girl lied? Or she was drunk and all her facts are a bit jumbled? Then your boy may have beat up the kid for nothing. Or even the wrong kid? You don't know this. That is why we have authorities to solve a crime. Or if the girl is telling the truth, shouldn't the authorities be involved to stop this boy, and who is allowing school age children to drink?
Punish your child. Let him know, none of these behaviours are acceptable. You will not tolerate, Vigilantism. You will not tolerate him missing school, and screwing up his own future. Anyone involved in this situation needs to make whomever responsible, culpable for their own actions. Once you have done all you can do, then leave it up to the authorities, her parents, and get back to raising your kid. Set an example for him of what to do, and tell him you are proud of his intentions by standing up for her, but beating the boy has brought no Real Justice, as he could just do this again.
Your sons' life and direction are guided by you. You must show him that you love him, understand him, but make sure he respects you by punishing him severely because his future is important to you.

Well you don't watch lifetime movies do you? lol
The ones where the women get men to do things for them...like kill their husbands or previous lovers. Although, I see your point,
where is your son to draw the line. This is teaching him vigilantism not justice. Tell him alothough you understand what he was feeling and he was trying to protect her, the best way to do this is to contact police and adults. Plus, come on...........if he was going to do it why did he choose to do it during school hours? IN day light, gone into another school..................could have charges made against him..........from the school district, the boy, and his parents.
Not a good choice. And you would be responsible for it all.
Schools are becoming responsible for filing charges with police if others are assaulted.

I would punish my son as well for the truancy... but if it is really true about his reason for beating up the student, I'd just give him some serious talking to, and advise.
Its for his safety, too. Friends of that student may go after him.

Your son cannot save the world. That's what I had to tell mine when he wanted to frequently take on other's problems and stick up for the underdog. They went back to class and he was suspended.... the proper way to deal with someone being attacked by others is to tell authorities immediately. (unless they are in immediate danger of bodily injury). His empathy and sympathy for others is one of his greatest gifts I tell him. But he had to temper that with 1) following law and not becoming a perpetrator himself and 2) thinking of the negative impact to his own life and goals vs. the positive impact of him stepping in right then. For ex., if he steps in to prevent a bully pushing a weaker kid: sure the kid would have gotten pushed but survived without real injury if he doesnt step in. But he for sure will be suspended and branded as a fighter. Not a good trade for him.
Your son needs to think first of himself.
