Sounds like a responsible dog owner to me.

Do you mean trimmed with a scizzors, but not shaved with a clippers? Any dog can be completely trimmed with a scizzors, the bichon actually looks more like the standard that way, but it takes longer and more skill. It's definitely better to brush and trim frequently instead of waiting until it's a big task and the dog has to stand for hours getting groomed. I would still take him to the groomer occasionally for a good bath, nail trim, and touch-up trim to keep him looking his best, but that's up to you. It is best to bathe and blow dry a bichon so the hair is really fluffy before trimming, or it will look really choppy. If I didn't answer your question, maybe you can add more to it.

It's good that you brush him and keep him trimmed. Some of them get so matted and uncomfortable. I guess you just have to decide on how long you want his hair. If it's as hot where you live as it is here, you might definitely consider a shorter cut for the summer. They are so cute.

YES!YOU ARE DOIN A GOOD JOB OF LOOKING AFTER YOUR DOG ...I AM A GROOMERS ASSISTANT AND WE SEE ALOT OF BICHONS VERY MATTED AND ITS VERY TIME CONSUMING AS I,M SURE THE DOG GETS SICK OF PEOPLE PULLING ON THEIR MATTS ! I,M SURE IF U KEEP UP THE BRUSHING ,YOUR DOGGIE WILL LOOK AND FEEL BETTER ABOUT HIM OR HERSELF TOO.
