What does the number 666 mean?

Many people say this number is a number of devil. Can you tell me its abrevation and the meaning of it.

In Greek, numbers were represented by letters so it is possible to "add up" a name. There have been many leaders in history whose name added up top 666, notably Nero, who persecuted the Christians Revelation was written to.

NIV Study Bible says:
Various schemes for decoding these numbers result in such names as Euanthas, Lateinos, and Nero Caesar. Others take 666 as a symbol for the trinity of evil and imperfection—each digit falls short of the perfect number 7.

According to the book of revelations the number 666 is the mark of the beast some historians believed that it was used to describe Nero but it wasn't until yrs later was when we found out that Nero's number is 616 not 666. It is believed that it will be put on the forehead in order to buy and trade. In 2007 CNN announced that technology is at the point now that it is possible to Microchip humans, meaning in other words is that in order to buy or trade something in a store or at a market you would have to have a microchip in your brain in order to do anything.

The number 6 is the number of man because God created man on the sixth day. So as a trinity, 6 for God 6 for man and 6 for the devil. Thus, the devil gets its number 666. As per Verse 18 "Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast:for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred three score and six." The devils number is the twist of man's number.(Matthew 16:23).

It's a prophecy about the coming Antichrist, a man who will rise from power out of nowhere and will be hailed a hero for seemingly bringing about the impossible: world peace (especially with a treaty between Israel and the other Middle East nations). But it will be a false peace, so don't fall for it. The guy will turn out to be really, really evil. The Bible calls him "the man of sin," which means he is the personification of all the evil that's in men's hearts. Not all evil appears "bad," though. That's why he'll be so deceptive. He'll appear charming, gifted, intelligent, etc.

1. It means the number of the devil. Read the Bible you will know. It is the beast's number.

2. It is a lucky number. For Chinese. I witnessed some people celebrating on the 06 June 2006 (06.06.06). Both contradict each other so I don't know the reason for this.

I support the first one. I don't understand the second one. There is a movie called something like "the omen" and it opens on 06.06.06.

666 is the number of the beasts name. many people have tried to use numerology to decipher what the beasts name might be. the one i created is this 6+6+6=18 1+8=9 now, multiplying every letter's value by 9 (a=9, b=18 and so forth) when you use the name lucifer, you get 666...pointless, but still fun

Because the Devil is a "God" his number holds the Trinity aspect... being the Trinity God of Man, and Man's number being 6... the Devil's number becomes 666!

There is no abbreviation. The Bible says that it is the number of the beast. It is found in Revelation. It is simply another means of identifying the anti-Christ - but we already know who he is.

The previous answer about the Roman emperor is right - remember that revelations was written when there was a lot of resistance in Israel against the Romans (they even started a war agains the Roman empire!) so a lot of revelations is allegorical anti-Roman propaganda!

Jesus being called the "King of the Jews" was a matter of politics - it was a revolutionary statement, not a religious one.
