Well, this is a little difficult. It depends on how bad the infestation is. If your cat has only a couple of fleas, get a flea comb and some warm (almost) hot water. Use the flea comb and comb your cat. Whatever fleas he has will be caught in the teeth of the comb. After you capture fleas in the comb, put the comb in the water to kill them. Make sure they are immersed in the water though or they will jump out. Also, get your cat a cedar bed. Cedar chips is a natural repellent of fleas. If you have a really bad infestation, you have to be more aggressive about getting rid of them. You will need to go to your vet and ask for Frontline or Advantage (I think it's Advantix now). This will get rid of your flea problem very quickly. It is not necessary to bomb your house if you use these products. If you do decide to bomb your house, make sure your cat is not there.

Natural... Well, you're fighting a loosing battle if you insist on going natural with fleas. The problem is the different life stages i fleas - from eggs to larvae to baby flea to adult-bites-itch-like-mad-fleas ! All the stages must be killed to solve a flea problem.
So washing the cat in any soap or Head and shoulders shampoo might kill the baby/adult stage but won't get rid of the egs or larvae in the environement (ie: bedding, carpet).
While I applaud your desire to not use chemicals, some times "natural" just isn't the best solution - I recommend any of the spot treatments available at the VETS (stay away from the pet store variety - they can have dangerous results). So Revolution (bonus - it kills ear mites and intestinal worms) or Program or Advantage used as directed is your best solution for long term results. They cost about 6-10$/tube (sometimes cheaper online) and will resolve the problem in days (you do have to re-treat every month during flea season).
Good luck !

Head and Shoulders should not be used on cats or even people. It coats your scalp with a plastic like film.
Try "Buck Mountain Parasite Dust for Animals". It is non-toxic so they can even lick it off without any harm.
"Parasite Dust for Animals - powder - The compound is formulated from Azadirachta indica, Achillea millefolium and diatom flour.
It acts in four ways to rid animals and buildings of flies, fleas, lice, ticks, mites, spiders, beetles, ants and more. The neem tree contains a chemical, azadirachtin. It is an active insecticide, a repellent and a potent-antifeedant and ecdysis inhibitory compound.
Neem herb has found broad use as a wound healing agent and has reported antimicrobial properties. Yarrow is a repellent to many parasites and diatom flour desiccates many insects."
You might have to order it through your vet.

Actually most flea treatments are "natural"...Those "pyrethrins" that is the #1 ingredient, those are made from chrysanthemums (it's a flower).
So just get one that is "all natural" or with only pyrethrin in it.
Yes, very important to remove the fleas, your cat can get worms from them, if the flea is carrying it from biting an infected animal.

well that depends.
i'm a foster mom to young kittens. if the kitten is about a month old when i find him then i give him a nice small quick bath which drowns most of the flees. if his older i use frontline(which is natural).
you can use a louse comb to get them out and quickly either drown them in water or squash them.
i also don't know of any natural remedy that actually works.

Add a very small amount of vinegar in their water. It works even for ticks. And being that if you only put a small amount in it most cats never notice and it harmless.
