MORE INFORMATION
Important notes
•If sufficient space is available, the Windows XP removal files are automatically saved during the upgrade.
•If the Windows XP removal files have been removed from the computer, you cannot use the removal that this article describes.
•Any programs that were installed before the Windows XP upgrade will be preserved. Additionally, any programs that were installed after the Windows XP upgrade will not be available after you remove Windows XP. You may have to reinstall these programs.
•To remove Windows XP, you must have upgraded from Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition.
Note If you upgraded from Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Windows 2000, or Windows NT 4.0, you cannot remove Windows XP.

You can't actually 'uninstall' WinXP per say and the steps to remove WinXP differ from what you want to do.
1. If you want a fresh install - this would involve reformatting. Which is an option when you place your WinXP disk in your PC.
2. If you want to install another OS (maybe Linux) you can't just install it over WIndows - this can sometimes go wrong (I speak from experience). Instead you'll have to delete your Windows partition - this can be done by inserting your WinXP disk and selecting the 'partition' option.
BE CAREFUL when playing around with your partitions. It can harm your computer irretrievably - make sure you know what you're doing and back up everything.

it depends what you want afterwards. if you want to reinstall xp and have the pc as it was when it was bought, then use the cd that came with it by booting from it at startup. You must set the BIOS to boot from the cd by accessing the BIOS menu at startup by pressing the key denoted during the frist startup phase (e.g. F2 or DEL). You must then access the boot order from one of the menus and set to boot from the cd drive first.
You could instal older versions of windows in the same way.
be aware though that a complete reinstal formats the hard drive and removes all old data.

Unplug your harddisk, boot your machine using a floppy (not a rescue disk created by the same OS) use a different one ..maybe win 98!, plug the hard disk and say format c: (or whatever drive has XP)

If and only if you want to install other version of Windows,
or reinstall the XP:
Right click on the drive on which the XP is installed,
click on format.
it will work,
I have only heard, never tried.

It depends on what context and what it is you have it running as.
You can't rollback from an XP upgrade CD, but you can do it if its a full install CD, but some more info would be good.
