It takes about ten days to heal after a tonsillectomy. It hurts like heck for the first few days, then you have a day or two of rest, then it hurts like heck again. There is no way to really make it stop hurting faster, but some people eat really cold foods to help numb the pain a bit. When I had mine, I couldn't eat really cold or really hot, it was just moderate foods. Sorry, wish I had a better answer for you. Good Luck!

Make sure that you drink enough fluids!!! I can't stress that enough!! I had mine out in November and I lived on Gatorade and Powerade for just about 2 weeks. The pain meds made me NOT want to eat. The ENT specialist said it was ok not to eat but you need to drink a lot. When I did start eating, it was mostly jello. Cold jello. I wouldn't recommend anything with milk in it because that makes more mucus. I think I went from jello to maybe just the broth from soup. Sometimes the bubbles in ginger ale helped...weird I know...you'd think it would hurt.

But like the first answer said, it will hurt for the first couple of days, then you will feel better then it will get worse. No worries, you'll get better. :-)

no irritating stuff, no acid, no alkali, no spice
no solid stuff, no sharp things
just neutral soft soups;icecream is popular, a lot of water because it keeps the area wet and clean and wipes out any clot.
but not hot water
no extra vitamin you need, but generally meat is better than other foods because you need to heal the lesion. protein helps a lot. so i can say a soup with meat! but not spicy not hot.
Yogourt is neutral, soft and rich of protein! good stuff, go for it.
it is also a good combination of sugar, fat and protein. so it's a complete food for you.
what else can i add? ummm! Oh, sodas are good but it hurts if it is full of gas! so shake it and take the gas out before use.
good luck
i am an MD!

Crisps/chips. Very, very painful, but the salt makes you heal faster.
