I would make it less attractive to be here.
1. No welfare benefits.
2. No hospital benefits (except iin the case of emergencies).
3. No schooling for their chidren paid for the government.
4. Not allowing children who are born in this country because
their mother entered the country for that purpose to become
citizens.
5. Cracking down on employers of illegals--with stiff, really stiff
fines for violation, and making them responsible for the cost
of returning the illegals to their own country. Perhaps even
requiring them to accompany them back to their home
country. Let the punishment fit the crime, I say!
There are so many people want in to enter America as immigrants and trying to do it the right way, and they are the ones who suffer, and America suffers, because these people want to be Americans. A lot of illegals are simply using America. There is a difference.
Those are the first things.
Second, stop trying to force bi-lingualism into every area of American life.
Third, make entry into the country more difficult. This is the hardest and most costly, and that's why I put it third.
And then, see what we can do to offer help to some of these countries to provide economic opportunities for their own people in their own countries. And that has to be done mainly by the private companies. Some are trying and kudos to them. The government's job here could be to help smooth the way when needed.
But it's a huge problem, and America cannot continue to carry the financial costs indefinitely, without killing the goose that is laying the golden eggs.

I think Maggie has a great proposal. It is pretty much what I was thinking. I think the part that really bugs me the most is that if a woman enters illegally and gives birth, that child has citizenship. That is just crazy. They should only be given citizenship is the mother was here legally. I can understand why they all want to come here- which is really interesting since so many who are here talk about how awful it is! Another thing that irritates me are the people who think we have to spend extra money to make things easy for immigrants such as bilingual education, translators, information and messages in both English and Spanish. If immigrants want to move to America and espeically become citizens, they need to learn the language. I certainly couldn't go to another country and demand to have things translated into English and I wouldn't expect them to.

Eliminate the free health-care, social security disability and education (including college).
Any company (excludes farming) hiring illegal immigrants, would be shut down and fined. By doing this, other companies will take heed and immediately terminate there illegals.
When the recent mass protest occurred, where were the NATIONAL GUARDS? Can you imagine, how many were illegals and the government did absolutely nothing. Remember Ilian ? Same holds true in that incident.

Any civic effort taking initiative on illegal immigration on the part of the citizens of the United States needs to take place in well-thought-out and lawful fashion, so as to preclude any potential misperceptions about the overall intention of such effort.
We live in 'interesting times', where the population of the entire planet has multiplied six-fold in 100 short years. That's a lotta damn babies, and what's even more amazing is that during this same period, we've gone from horse and buggy to supersonic jets, from letters and telegrams to global instant messaging, in many respects the population has ballooned while the figurative size of our world has shrunk.
I believe that one good step on immigration control is INSISTING that any/all immigration be lawful, meaning 'no tickee, no washee', AKA go home if you jumped the fence.

The people who are in Mexico need to understand that the door is open to LEGAL immigration. But they are not well informed of this fact since the requirements recently made it easier. We also need to shorten the length of time to get permission to enter. For a person who needs a job they are not going to wait for two years to put food on their table. .
By enforcing legal immigration and making it easier to get approvals, you will reduce the illegal immigration problem. It also will better screen to make sure that the people who come here are less llikely to be dangerous.

They are making a good start. Building the fence, putting National Guard on the border, implementing software to help employers identify illegals much quicker, stepping up operations to severely punish companies that knowingly hire illegals, just to name a few things. I would like to see more help from the Mexican side, but not going to hold my breath.

Since u asked, it's a little late for a country who has as its motto:
"give me your poor, your downtrodden, stuggling to be free"
Myself, I would change the motto now to read, no entry since we are full. We have enough, thank you.
But, then suppose we miss a person of great value to human society?
People who lie to come here to USA
are illegal, that is the question.
They need to be picked up, and sent packing back to whence they came. Our latest problems stem from people who lie, cheat, and steal to bring in alienated people from other countries to start trouble. There are many enemies of USA who want troublemakers here to stir up trouble, and make our country just like the ones they left...Pack them up and send them back. Immigration has been slipping in their jobs of protecting us from the aliens, so I believe more jobs should be offered to people who have one mind and one goal to protect our country from illegal entry of aliens.

Heavy fines for employers, border guards 24/7, and shut down border as much as possible, and build that dam fence.

I still say when they were having that stupid protest march we should have kept them marching all the way back to their border!!!!!
What the heck did they have to protest?Free housing or just about, free food, free education while we pay out the kazoo for our families to not get these same benefits.
THEY WERE ALREADY OUT IN THE OPEN why couldn't we have just kept them going?
BUILD THAT WALL BUILD THAT WALL!
