I already did ask ages ago, and didn't have to end up on Death Row to do it either.

But I did once know a person who, when I met him, all I knew about him was that he was a gentle, mature, wise practitioner of his faith, so that I was in complete shock when I found out that he had found his forgiveness on Death Row (after having killed seven people in cold blood for money as a professional hit man for the Mafia).

That forgiveness which he experienced - upon hearing who Jesus really is and just what it means that He came here, died on a cross, and rose again - changed his life so much that the governor eventually found out and pardoned him. As a free man, he was needless to say very aware of God's mercy all the time...

I won't ever end up on death row. But if i did, I'm sure I'd ask forgiveness of the families i hurt if i did in fact commit the crime... but it's pointless to ask forgiveness from a superstition.

according to the bible, yes. but remember, you are trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the Shepard.

i am not an expert in this field (but i'm tryin') and i would think that God looks into the heart of the sinner and not just the voice that comes from his/her mouth.

i have been repentent in the past and then again i was truly sorry that i got caught/confronted. it may very well depend on the sincerity of the individual.

will God forgive you just because you are scared to go to hell?

i dont know.

It almost sounds like a person is asking for forgiveness that they got caught, that that thy are really sorry for what they did.

By the way, there is no guarantee any of us will make it to tomorrow muchless thru this day,

Yes, you probably could, provided you knew at exactly what time you were going to die. The Bible tells us that tomorrow is promised to no one. There is the story of the rich man, who had more 'stuff' than his barns could hold, so he said to himself, I will tear down my barns and build bigger barns, to house all my stuff, and I will live happily ever after. But God said, "you fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee". So all his wealth and "stuff" didn't do him any good. As a wise man once said, 'never put off till tomorrow what you can do today'.
The Bible says, "behold now is the accepted time, behold now is the day of salvation". Don't wait till tomorrow, tomorrow may never come.

Forgiveness from the people I've hurt? I'd do it immediately.
Forgiveness from the families of the people I hurt? I'd do it immediately.
Forgiveness from society? I'd do it immediately.
Forgiveness from a mythological figure in thy sky? The hell that he allegedly created would have to freeze over first.

Yes. If someone truly repents and accepts Jesus as their savior, believes he is the son of God and is Baptized. In the book of Luke, Chapter 23:39 - 43, Jesus tells a condemned man who was crucified as well the following:

39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

So again, yes, this being a special case, but as I stated in the beginning, believe and repent and be baptized. God knows what is in someones heart.

No. If you wait, that means you know you are sinning and yet continue to do so without repenting. That is turning your face from God and that is the one unforgivable sin.
