I have been using ibuprofen for a while and it still hurts. What are some good pain relievers I can use? Anything I can take over the counter? Thanks

Heat works magic for me. I lie down and put a heating pad on my back - even if the directions say not to lie on it - I do. And then I take some tylenol and try to 'sleep it off ' It works wonders for me.
Or try relaxing in a hot tub of water. I've heard that helps.
Although everyone is different and what works for one - may not work for another.

Do you know the cause of your pain? I have a ruptured disc and I'm also facing serious pain. Ask your doctor to be sure, but ibuprofen (at a higher dose) is the strongest thing over-the-counter.

Check out the book "Treat Your Own Back" by Mackenzie. Be mindful of your posture, and stretch every day. It may make the difference! Good luck.

hi... if you haven't been getting better, then please stop the medication!! Firstly, you need to see a doctor and see if you have any serious issue. Meanwhile, you need to start improving your posture, especially if you spend a large part of the day on a computer. Next you need to stop bending forward or ligting weights or ANYTHING that troubles your back. Heat or cold treament should only be done under doctor's advice - the only thing you should do without any doctor's advice is REST! take care!

Besides pills, you could try hot or cold packs, heating pads, thermacare also make patches for your back that heat up and are very convenient, and try getting massages.
