Do not give a baby coffee!!!
Try raisins, fig newtons, fruit and the like as suggested. If he doesn't go, call the nurse at your Drs office and see if he should be brought in. Sometimes, they have ideas/suggestions they can give you over the phone so you don't have to drag him in.
If he is "holding" it for some reason--are you potty training?--distract him with a favorite park trip, movie or something where you know he is completely in to what he is doing and that, with the raisins and such may help.
Beware! If he has been constipated for a while, when it finally comes, it may be diarrhea and/or a lot of poop!

Give him a lot of apple or grapes or peaches, nectarines, plums also blueberries do the job. He should be relieved in two hours. Make sure he eats as much as he can. Also no fiber - no bread, crackers, cereal and he can have some juice or water. Try not to mix the kinds of fruit

Give apple or pear juice, try a fleet it is an infant enema, works very well. Also try putting Vaseline on a rectal thermometer and inserting it in the anus that also helps. But make sure that they drink plenty of juice through the day so that they stay regular.

Put Vaseline on your fingertip and very gently insert it in the child's rectum...this will sometimes jump start the process and ease the way...lots and lots of fluids...as much as you can get the child to consume...and sometimes rubbing their sore little tummy will help them...warmth is another possibility. A mild and age appropriate enema will help if none of these work. If this becomes a recurring problem you must seek medical advice from a doctor.

Lots of fluids and fibours foods, such as leafy green vegetables etc. You can give a little prune juice too to help things along. If it doesn't sort itself out in a few days, it might be worth seeing your GP for a laxetive.

water, juice and fruits. steer clear of bananas applesauce and rice, they are binding. Talk to a doctor if it is painful or lasts more than a few days.
I have had to help my daughter before. I placed Vaseline on the tip of an anal thermometer and placed it inside the anus to help stimulate her. I know it sounds gross, but it relieved her almost instantly.

Add more fruit and perhaps some juice to the diet. What is your definition of constipation? It is normal for some infants to only have a bowel movement every few days.

Lots of fruit juice, and a warm bath will usually do the trick. It worked for both of my sons.
