And then we would wonder why little children find it so difficult to believe in such things, just like the bible. When I was a kid there was no way I would believe that rubbish in the bible.

Lord of the Rings is a spinoff from the Silmarillion.

Eru (aka Iluvatar) is the creator God.

The Ainur (aka Valar) are the greater angels, while the Maiar are the minor angels.

Melkor (aka Morgoth) is the fallen angel. Sauron (a Maiar) is his chief servant. Balrogs are the major demons.

Tolkien created a very rich milieu. LotR is but a slice of it.

Interesting question. I highly recommend you read the rest of Tolkien's work.

It's funny what can turn into a bonifide religion.

L. Ron Hubbard was a sci-fi writer and It appears he founded a religion with his Dianetics book.

I would say it is not impossible that the Lord of the Rings trilogy could have morphed into an actual religion if circumstances were right...

Improbable, but definately not impossible.

The intentions of the Lord of the Rings was obviously for fictional creativity which was not the intentions of those who wrote the Bible (whether that is to inform or to deceive - see the opening section of Luke). We have works of fiction today that are just as old.

Secondly, The Lord of the Rings was an allegory of much of the bible itself.

Sauron would be satan and Gollum would probably be a Judas type chracter (betrayal and redemption sort of thing )

Try reading ( and it is trying, talk about hard going !!) The Silmarillion - it's practically a fantasy rewrite of the bible

Naw, because first it would take someone right here, right now, to believe it. And convince others.

You forget that people have been believing in God since before the Bible was 'officially' written, and that's thousands of years.

Probably, except Lord of the Rings makes more sense than the Bible.

Lord of the rings is a myth, very beutiful one. But it is not a religion. Because it doesnt have elements of religion. These are two different things.

But there is no salvation in the rings.
Back to reality, the rings was penned in the '50's

The bibles authors claimed it is non-fiction, wheras Tolkein agreed that the lord of the rings is fiction.
