I read a story out of St Petersburg Fla about some peice of feces raping an 8 year old girl on a sidewalk in broad daylight as she was walking home from the playground with her younger brother. What is wrong with people??? I grew up in the 80's and in the summer, my friends and I would walk to the local pool at 2 and 3am and never had any fear of any one or anything hurting us. WTF is going on?

How do we return to decency? Have we come too far to reclaim some sort of decent society? How sad for our children and grandchildren.

Kelly,

The world hasn't changed since the 1980s. The world is over 6 billion years old. These things have been happening since the beginning of time. The only reason you hear about these things more today than in the past is because access to media for all of us has become much quicker--particularly because of the internet making the world a much larger and smaller place all at the same time. Our life spans are the equivalent to that of a common fruit fly in the context of world history, Kelly--never be deluded that the "world is changing." You and I have only been here for about a second. Also, perhaps you lived in a good neighborhood--just a guess. It's far less likely for things like this to happen in upper class and upper middle-class neighborhoods because the communities are strictly run and monitored by its citizens.

Well for one thing. the punishment for this crap isn't near harsh enough..They should do to these people that do this what they did to the child and then turn there parents loose on them and let happen what may and then if they are still alive put them in prison for the rest of there lives.
There are a whole lot of sick asses out there and there is nothing that can be done about it til the laws are changed to make them pay for what they do and not get out of jail again.. My ex-husband did this to my youngest daughter and he is out now still messing around with young girls. aparently the parents should keep better track of there kids instead of letting them run the streets by themselves.
Keep the goverment out of our lives and turn the raising of our kids back to us..
try setting up some group or something to change things. It can't hurt..

Hon, I've been around a lot longer than the 80's. Ever hear of a guy named Charles Manson? The Lindbergh kidnapping? Jack the Ripper? There's been evil people longer than you or I have existed.

Folks did NOT suddenly become evil in the 80's. They had had tons of practice by then and you were very lucky and blessed to have escaped the consequences of your naiveté.

Wait one cotton pickin' minute...what were you and your friends doing out at 2 and 3am?
Were your parents so lax that they didn't give you a curfew?
