To Muslims having more than one wife... is that another way to punish yourself?

I mean, putting up with your wife is already a pain on the ***, but having to put up with 2, 3, 4, or more, has to be clearly a self punishment way.

Historically, most of the prophets married more than one wife christians and jews know about prophet Abraham'story with his 3wives.Abraham had 3 wives in the bible: Sarah, Hagar, and Keturah. (In book of GENESIS)

-Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. (1 KINGS 11:3)

-David had many wives (2 SAMUELS 5:13 i see Polygamy one of of the proofs that muslims only have the true religion of GOD -the religion of all prophets-because only Muslims practice Polygamy

Permission to practice polygamy is not associated with mere satisfaction of passion. It is rather associated with compassion toward widows and orphans. It was the Quran that limited and put conditions on the practice of polygamy



There is no doubt that the second wife legally married and treated kindly is better off than a mistress without any legal rights or expermanence



The Quran says, "you can marry 2 or 3 and up to 4 women if you can be equally just with each of them" (4:3). Since it is very difficult to be equally just with all wives, in practice, most of the Muslim men do not have more than one wife. Prophet Muhammad (P) himself from age 24 to 50 was married to only one woman, Khadija. In the western society, some men who have one wife have many extramarital affairs. Thus, a survey was published in "U.S.A. Today" (April 4, 1988 Section D) which asked 4,700 mistresses what they would like their status to be. They said that "they preferred being a second wife rather than the 'other woman' because they did not have the legal rights, nor did they have the financial equality of the legally married wives, and it appeared that they were being used by these men."

I am not sure where you are from, but clearly you are being a pessimiss. Imagine all 4 of them are wonderful. What do you think the man will be like?

Anyway I am not a muslim and cannot really comment but, different culture have different ways of handling martial issues. Generally females muslim are more submissive than the western counter part. (Generally)

dear, in islam there is no compulsion for a man to have more then one wife. a man can not have the 2nd wife utill he doesnt get permission from his 1st wife. 2ndly he should be financially enough strong to afford 2nd wife. 3rdly he should be sure that he is able to protect all of her rights and can give her a respectable place in his home and society. then the most important he should be able to maintain equality between his wives. if he doesnt meet any of above conditions he can not have the other woman.
the permission of marrying more then one woman is because of highly increasing number of women compare to men. in my region we have 57% of women and 43% of men. if 43% of men marry 43% of women, 14% girls just remain unmarried. same is the case around the world that we have more women population. if you go thru the world ratio of men having more then one wife, u ll see that in muslim countries still the ratio is less then the ratio in non-muslim countries. its because a muslim man is afraid of his God that He wont forgive him if some how he was failed to protect her rights and specially could not maintain the equality between his wives.
if a man thinks its like a punishment for him, to handle more then one wife, he is never ever suggested to go for 2nd one. and for this he is not going to ve any punishment from God. rather He will be happy on his decision.
every nation have good and bad people. some of our muslims just keep on marrying just t o have fun. they ve forgotton the day when they ll be asked to give account for their actions. that s the day of judgement.
about the 72 virgins, many of you may not be knowing that 72 virgins will include your wordly wife also. and she would be the most prettiest among the other 71 virgins. and you would be knowing her as your worldly wife also. all other relations will be unknows to each other but the husband wife relation. the 71 virgins would be like be at ur service like servents. it doesnt mean at all that you have to do sexual relation with them also. its up to you. though its not impossible in heavens coz after all you own them and have full rights on them.

Talk about sexist, and having multiple wives has really nothing to do with pain, pleasure, or spirituality. In some religions and cultures it's just a status symbol, like a new sports car, or old men who hit on young women because they're going bald.

yeah :) but it also helps to solve many problems in the society.

not every man can get married, and not every man is financially ready for marriage. and sex is forbidden outside of marriage. all these women, single, divorce, widows has the right to have a family. what will women do if the number of men are declining, while the number of women are increasing, and no one want to get married?

In Islam......having more than 1 wife really exists.... but it happens in certain situations & it's rare....

While men are allowed to marry up to four wives, they are also commanded to meet the preconditions of being able to financially support them. They must also deal with each wife justly and fairly with respect to marital and economic obligations. Allah says in the Qur'an (translation),

[4:3] If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice.
