Neither, I think you both should just get over it and continue as normal... why does anyone have to say sorry if you're both at fault...

Its hard to admit guilt especially if you don't feel at fault. But something has to give. If the girl says sorry first, the the guy might follow or vice versa. The main thing is to communicate to move forward and compromise so that if something likes this happen again, you won't go away mad at each other and ruin the relationship.

Why would sorry be a gender issue?
You should always say your sorry if it got out of control. If it leads to an argument than you are both wrong. Are you not sorry that you could not resolve it in a discussion rather than a mess as you described?
Personally: A man should always protect his wife above himself and a wife should not provoke her husband. These ideas are meant lovingly as tokens of love in your marriage. If your not married, then why are you with this person? If you love them enough, apologize, generally one who loves you will look at you and melt with their own, I am sorry too.

You should both talk about it and learn from your mistakes. It doesn't matter who says I'm sorry, all that matters is that you both worked it out. Pain is a destructor, let it go and put the love first.

A relationship knows no pride and both parties should be willing to own up and say sorry.....Apologising shows maturity and the maore mature person usually apologises first

the one with the bigger heart will say sorry. U must say sorry, ur friend will appreciate it, n respect for u will grow, but also mention ' it was both of our's fault, whatever happened happened, let's forget it , n I'm sorry n regret what happened"

I think if the relationship matters more than your ego's both should apologize first.
If either one's ego is more important to him/her than the relationship, you have serious issues and you both may need to reconsider why you are in this relationship.
