watch the food network just to see some techniques. Find some simple recipes. I agree with whoever said "Better Homes and Garden" that is the best cookbook, and there is a chapter on cooking techniques, utensils, etc.

I agree, you shoudn't be afraid, get in the kitchen and start making a mess!!! try everything, practise a lot! Watch TV shows where they cook... And start with easy recipies! step by step :) Don't make in an obligation, because if you do, it's going to show in you recipies! Cooking should be fun!!!! so, Enjoy it! and start experimenting!!!

First, just cook water, then cook rice, then cook fried fish. It's means... step by step, from simple to hard.
