Well you mentioned poverty in previous question so that sounds good for a start and think of another one personal to you like a music group maybe you could volunteer time for that one.

Having personal experience from through my friend battling cancer - and loosing - I always go for a cancer charity. There work is unbeliveable. I now work for a charity and all the money goes to St Andrews Hospice who provide care for people with life-threatening and life limiting ilnesses - this is also a good choice!

Here are my personal favorites (top 3, anyway) that are hurt severely by underfunding:

1. National Center for Men

2. Fathers and Families

3. The National Coalition of Free Men

Go to www.give.org. It's a site by the Better Business Bureau. It contains reports showing how much of donations actually are received by recipitants and how much is used to pay the staff.

You really need to go with your heart with this one.

I don't donate to charities that I know nothing about.

Being a Scout Leader, I normally contribute to district charitable events.

I am a big believer in St Jude Children's Research Hospital and have raised money for them by running. Thye really won;t bother you too much after you donate, either.

Try and help charities in your local community or something which has particular resonance to you or friends and family. Failing that try one of the big ones like Oxfam or Unicef.

The Royal British Legion (or poppy appeal). They do a lot for the heroes (in the true sense of the word) who fought for our freedom. It's not just veterans from WW2, it's anyone who has served in the military.

Please please please donate to animal charities.
Animals cannot speak out for themselves and suffer such terrible abuse and neglect unnoticed by people.
The people such as the RSPCA etc do fantastic work with these poor creatures and need all the help they can get.
I know some people will suggest children/starving countries charities etc - but please bear in mind the needless suffering and abuse these animals get - left to die and starve, kicked and physically tortured.
