To keep up with a technology that is ever changing and is largely market driven. You can have years of experience go down the tubes as software languages and methods change leaving you forced to start all over to develop your skill set. Of course basic skills are reusable but development tools continually evolve. Be warned this is a field where you can never stop reading and learning and studding. You will always be challenged to learn the new pushed latest and greatest. How many 50 years old programmers do you see that are heavy into coding?
