By sending emails with pictures and talking on the phone first I've found no bad experiences. But I've always waited at least 2 months to get to know the person first.

No, I met 12 or so blokes while I was doing internet dating. Most were interesting, intelligent men. In most cases though I didn't find them attractive (or them me!). That's the problem - you can really click with someone on line or on the phone or when you correspond by e or letter, but there's no chemistry when you meet. I agree with a previous answer who suggests corresponding and speaking on the phone over the course of several weeks before you agree to a meeting. But then of course if you meet and don't fancy them it could be seen as wasted effort, but try to think of it as making a new friend.

nope never have done,
and not entirely sure if i ever will -i'm the one that everyone will write 'yes and she was a mong!'
had one bloke pester me to meet him as he wanted to 'show me a dam good time' (his words not mine!) but he was 48 and i was 21!!
