That message is being thrown by Windows Genuine Advantage Verification Tool. It means that you most likely have a pirated copy of Windows. Try reactivating Windows. If it still throws the message, go back to your reseller and have them give you a legal copy of Windows -- you've been ripped off.

To the poster that commented on a "downloaded" copy: That IS priated. Windows is NOT distrubuted via downloads except for beta versions.

I'm in England and I've been getting the same thing for a couple of months. I had to delete this harddrive and a friend reinstalled Windows 1+2, XP Pro. I'm pretty sure he downloaded a legal version, but I havn't been able to contact him for a while to ask him if it can be sorted out. Guess I'll just have to put up with it in the meantime.

then most probably you do have a non-genuine Windows OS

microsoft had a lot of means to verify the authenticity of most OS copies; thru windows genuine advantage installation, windows activation code, etc., to check if you really have purchased a genuine version.

i'm using a genuine microsoft windows xp home edition, so i'm not having a problem like the one you have mentioned; but when i installed my own copy to another desktop, that's when i have encountered a lot of security check while using my OS on another computer..

microsoft rules! sigh!
